Before stadiums, before world tours and before they became the Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the World, The Rolling Stones were packing into the sweaty basement of the Ken Colyer Club (Studio 51) in London's Soho.

In 1963, the band held a residency here, performing blistering rhythm and blues sets that helped build their reputation and attract a loyal following. It was one of the venues where the Stones developed the raw sound and rebellious energy that would soon take them around the globe. (earlyblues.org)

Today, the music has long since faded, but the building on Great Newport Street remains an important landmark in the story of British rock 'n' roll—a reminder that every legend starts somewhere.

What do George Frideric Handel and Jimi Hendrix have in common?

Remarkably, they both called the same building in London's Mayfair home—almost 200 years apart.

Handel lived here from 1723, composing many of his greatest works, while in 1968 Jimi Hendrix moved into the neighbouring flat, decorating it with antiques and making it his own during the height of his career.

Today, Handel Hendrix House celebrates the lives of these two musical icons, offering visitors a fascinating glimpse into their homes, their music and their lasting influence on the world.

Two icons, one legendary view. 🌅🎸

Long before Sir Mick Jagger was looking out over the Thames from Richmond Hill, England’s greatest landscape painter, J.M.W. Turner, was walking these exact same paths. Turner loved the area so much he actually designed his own hidden retreat, Sandycombe Lodge, just minutes away.

In 1819, Turner captured this famous Richmond landscape in one of his masterpiece paintings. Nearly two centuries later, rock royalty moved in to enjoy the exact same view. Proof that truly inspiring places never go out of style.

Before the charts, the arenas and the worldwide fame, Spandau Ballet played their very first live show at the legendary Blitz Club on 5 December 1979. Hidden inside a Covent Garden wine bar, the Blitz became the beating heart of London’s New Romantic scene between 1979 and 1981, famous for its outrageous fashion, strict door policy and trailblazing crowd. Future stars including Boy George and even David Bowie were part of the scene that made this venue iconic. Today, a plaque marks the birthplace of Spandau Ballet’s live career.
