Hottest day of the year so far. Today I’ll be taking a lovely family from Florida all around London’s most famous landmarks: Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Borough Market, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, starting with the glorious Westminster Abbey.

What would be your first thing you would like to see on a visit to London?

Doing a last minute walking tour of Windsor town today. It’s not every day you can say you’ve done a walking tour of Windsor on the same day as planting a tree in your new back garden!

Walking over to London City Airport to meet clients and getting nostalgic for when I lived in the Docklands area. Nestled amongst the shiny modern architecture of Canary Wharf and the Victoria and Albert Docks is the wonderful little airport. Mostly small planes and short flights from Europe to entice business clients to the financial district of London. For me, I have a Canadian couple doing a special Shakespeare’s London tour to celebrate a 70th birthday!

I’m Rhys, for private tours of London or Windsor with a theatrical flare, why not book me for a tour?

Always nice to spot something with our new King’s royal cypher on it (the CIIIR, for Carolus Tertius Rex, King Charles III in latin) What exciting thing could this be for?

… It’s a hideaway for the rubbish bins from the gift shop! It’s also got a helpful dent in it for storing the watering can!

Caerphilly Castle, South Wales. What an amazing fortress. Bear in mind, that I live near Windsor Castle, so I am particularly hard to impress. This is arguably the second largest Castle in the UK after Windsor (there are other claimants to this, such as Dover Castle). This castle was established in 1268 and you can see that this would have been a truly intimidating fortress when your main way of attacking a castle was with siege weapons like the ones in the first picture, however, by the English Civil War (yes, this reached Wales too) we had gunpowder, which you can see in the second photo has left the south east tower to lean at a more acute angle than the Tower of Pisa!

This may be the last time I see the Windsor Totem Pole, Virginia Water, Windsor Great Park. This Totem Pole was carved in the style of the Kwakiutl tribe of British Columbia, Canada in 1958, to celebrate 100 years of BC being a Crown Province. It has now reached the end of its natural life and will be taken down. In fact it was due to be taken down last year but it was delayed for technical reasons. It will be removed soon and laid to rest and naturally degrade, as is the traditional way to dispose of totem poles.
