If you jump to the left and do a step to the right just outside of Windsor is a hotel that you have probably seen in a movie. Oakley Court Hotel is right by Bray Studios, which was home to the Hammer Horrors, so this gothic revival building was used as a spooky backdrop in many of their scary movies from the 1950s to 1970s. It’s the main setting for the comedy film “Murder by Death”, but perhaps it’s most recognised as Frankenfurter’s mansion in cult classic “Rocky Horror Picture Show”.

Behind the scenes at the disused train platforms at Charing Cross tube station. This is used frequently in movies and TV shows, such as Skyfall, Borne Identity, Thor the Dark World… you can instantly recognise it by the 1970s pea soup green and mustard yellow wall decorations which have long since been taken away on the rest of the tube. The movie and book posters are all made up, so there are no copyright issues. So if you were hoping to see “Love on the Platform” starring “Hugh Jass”, I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed.

Today I took my clients on a lovely spring walk through Hyde Park and we loved seeing all the water fowl, particularly the new baby Egyptian Goslings (pictures 1 & 2) the Heron (picture 3), the Cormorant (picture 4) and the birds we take for granted in the UK because we have loads of them but my clients had never seen in real life before: the swans (picture 5).

I just love Camille Walala’s decoration of the Crossrail Place Bridge, Canary Wharf. This quite often pops up in movies, like in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, when Sonic and Shadow run through it.

Simply one of the most magnificent buildings in London, the Natural History Museum. Yesterday I attended their Architecture Tour and it was fantastic to discover all the wonderful little details that the architect Alfred Waterhouse included in the building. The structure is based particularly on romanesque churches he had seen in Cologne, Germany, as this was a museum all about everything natural, or as it was seen by many, everything God had created!

If you get to Windsor by the train to Windsor and Eton Riverside station, look out for this strange tower. This little building was Queen Victoria’s waiting room and the tower was just big enough for a guard to watch to see when the train was approaching to let the Queen and her companions know to get ready.

You can also see the letters “WT” in the brickworks. These are the initials of the great architect William Tite, who served two terms as the Pres of RIBA, the Royal Institute of British Architects. Tite built several train stations throughout his career, but he is probably most recognised as the architect of the Royal Exchange in the City of London.

Windsor vista looking over the Thames viewing the Home Park, the Crown Estate’s private land, over to the castle. Today was a rare dry, sunny, albeit chilly, February day for a nice stroll through the countryside just outside Windsor.
