Everyone goes to Sarajevo or Mostar and yes, they are worth it. But the real magic is outside the cities.

Turquoise rivers that look photoshopped. Waterfalls you will have entirely to yourself. Day hikes that rival anything in the Alps, without the crowds or the price tag.

Europe’s most underrated nature destination is hiding in plain sight.

I bought a goat in Afghanistan.

Not as a souvenir. As a guest.
My ideas of animal welfare had to take backseat as we headed to buy a goat.
What followed was hours of fire, laughter, meat passed hand to hand, and tea I didn’t ask for but kept receiving. No agenda. No performance. Just people being generous with a stranger who showed up and stayed present.

That meal not only fed a family for month, it brought us together. I was no longer a tourist, I was one of them. The sense of community just became tangible.

This is why I travel.
