Dylan and Eloise Ford planted every single one of their 5,000 vines themselves at Bailey Hills Estates, set within the grounds of Wickham Hall on the Hertfordshire and Essex border. That was 2018. In 2025, their purpose-built w**ery opened next door, completing the journey from grape to bottle entirely on site.

The tasting room is stunning - floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the vines, a chic contemporary interior and a terrace for summer afternoons. Tours run from May to September with a guided walk through the vines, a look inside the working w**ery, and a curated flight of their Classic Cuvée and Sparkling Rosé to finish.

With tours running until the end of September, there are only a few weeks left to visit this season. Walk-ins are welcome, or book ahead to secure your spot before the season closes.

Harvest season is in full swing and the Daily Mail has rounded up the best UK vineyards for volunteering right now.

If you fancy swapping your w**e glass for a pair of gardening gloves this autumn, vineyards all over the country are actively looking for volunteer pickers. It’s one of the most memorable ways to experience w**e country up close.

Dates are usually announced at short notice once the grapes are ready, so follow us on Instagram and keep an eye on the app for volunteer opportunities as they come up. We’ll be resharing them as we hear about them.

“Kent, Sussex, Essex, Hampshire and Surrey, five of the biggest w**e-producing counties in the country, sit at the heart of England’s sparkling w**e story, with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier thriving on chalk soils that mirror Ch*****ne. Names like Nyetimber, Gusbourne and Chapel Down draw visitors for cellar tours and tastings, Denbies in Surrey became the UK’s first certified net zero vineyard and w**ery, and just inside the M25, Forty Hall in Enfield proves London has w**e of its own too.

The largest organic and first carbon negative vineyard in the UK. Silverhand Estate in the Luddesdown valley is one of the best reasons to head to Kent this autumn.

Explore the estate by vintage Land Rover or on foot through the vines, with tastings along the way. For those who want to go deeper, monthly history tours of Luddesdown Court, the Grade I listed manor house at the heart of the estate, are available throughout the week. Back at the cellar door, cheese and w**e evenings and monthly pairing nights keep the evening going. And when hunger strikes, The Lion at Luddesdown, their own pub next door, has you covered.

Few people know w**e quite like Jimmy Smith.

Founder of West London W**e School, creator of the W**e with Jimmy platform, and named Consumer Educator of the Year at the International W**e Challenge, Jimmy has spent over 20 years helping people understand what’s in their glass.

Then in 2022, alongside fellow w**emaker Sam Hill and his wife Bethany, he started making w**e of his own.

Beare Green W**ery in the Surrey Hills produces small batch still w**es from carefully selected Southern English grapes, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Bacchus and Pinot Gris among them, with a focus on natural yeast fermentation, minimal intervention and real curiosity about what English terroir can do.

Someone who teaches w**e for a living making w**e of their own. The results are exactly as considered as you’d expect.
