Did you know that in Kumamoto there is a sake vending machine. That's right, no ID, no security, a choice of 14 different sake tasters to try for 100 yen (less than 50p) a go! Imaging the trouble we would have in the UK!!

Her name is Kikushizu. She is 19 and has been a Maiko (apprentice Geisha) since she was 15. She told us if she didn't chose this she would have liked to drive construction vehicles for a living!

Japanese snow monkeys huddle in the hot springs for warmth all winter, but rarely enter the water in warmer weather. I guess we are just lucky!

These "portable" shrines weigh about 2 tonnes. It was 29°C. No wonder they look sweaty!
