Day 8… Sri Lanka’s south coast 🌊

We arrived at Uga Prāva in the dark the night before, so waking up to THAT view from my bed was the best surprise!

I’d loved being surrounded by mountains, jungle and tea country, but to me there’s just nothing like being by the ocean.

Some of the group headed to Udawalawe for a half day elephant game drive - it’s only around two hours from the south coast, so such a great option for wildlife lovers - but I chose to stay and enjoy the hotel.

A dreamy massage, cooling down in the pool, reading my book, soaking up the views, all to the sound of ocean waves crashing below.

We finished the day with sunset afternoon tea on the rocks, cocktails in Hiriketiya (such a cool little town I want to come back to) and a 7 course dinner by the bonfire.

I felt so grateful to have the day to relax, take it all in and reflect on what had been such an incredible trip.

A huge thank you to Hummingbird Travel Sri Lanka and our amazing guide Sanka Wijeyakulasuriya for this experience. It’s been one to remember.

Sri Lanka Inland Adventures 🌱🐘🚂🌳⛰️🌷

Days 5-7 in Sri Lanka were all about tea plantations, factory visits, sunsets over Hatton Valley, wildlife tracking, trail cam footage, spa treatments, waterfalls, elephants & monkeys, ridiculous views and THE bucket-list train ride through tea country.

Not forgetting the endless amazing food and hospitality - these few days were some of my favourite ever experienced on a work trip.

I spent 3 nights at Santani but it felt like I was there for farrrrr longer!

This place is SO special, and what I loved most was seeing just how much there is to experience there.

Across the three days we had a consultation with the resident wellness doctor, drinks around the bonfire, a 7-course dinner, a guided nature trek through the jungle, a 90-minute spa treatment, sound healing, morning Hatha yoga, a tea experience and a Sri Lankan cooking demonstration in possibly the most scenic location ever.

We also got a little sneak peek at the new multi-bedroom private pool villas, and all I can say is wow. 😍

And the FOOD. Honestly unbelievable. There are no menus at Santani - everything is curated daily by the chef and created around your dietary requirements - so every meal is completely different and you never know what’s coming next.

Then every night I’d get into bed and fall asleep to nothing but the sounds of nature outside my room.

You can fit so much into a stay here, but it never feels loud or busy. Everything feels very considered, peaceful and connected to the surroundings.

And I couldn’t have asked for a better group to experience it with. The loveliest bunch of fellow travel agents, and we have not stopped laughing.

Santani is difficult to properly explain until you’ve been. It’s not wellness in the obvious, traditional sense. It’s the whole experience - the food, movement, treatments, nature, surroundings and the feeling of being completely removed from normal life. An entire stay designed to calm your mind and leave you feeling better in every sense.

I arrived knowing Santani was going to be different.

I left thinking it’s one of the most unique hotels I’ve ever stayed in.

Touchdown in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 First stop: Negombo

I spent the night at Uga Riva in Negombo and I can already think of so many clients I’d love to send here.

It’s only around 30 minutes from the airport, has just 7 rooms, loads of character, tropical gardens, a gorgeous pool and is SO incredibly peaceful.

Of course, if you’re trying to squeeze as much as possible into your Sri Lanka itinerary, you can absolutely land and head straight off on your travels - and plenty of my clients do. Same on the way home!

But if you have an extra night to play with, this is such a lovely, relaxed way to start or finish a touring trip. And something I’ll be recommending going forward.

The best bit is that it doesn’t feel like a wasted night near the airport. Uga Riva is somewhere you’d actually want to stay. It’s beautiful, intimate and full of charm, so it still feels very much part of the holiday.

Definitely one I’ll be keeping in mind for future Sri Lanka itineraries.

Now onto Kandy… this next place is somewhere very very special. I can’t wait to show you more…

Gotta love a trier… 💁🏻‍♀️

Some people are natural influencers.

They glide effortlessly through life, looking chic and mysterious while someone captures the perfect candid shot.

Meanwhile, I’m wobbling around a hotel on a bicycle while my partner provides live commentary on my downfalls.

Thankfully, being good at Instagram isn’t a requirement for being a bloody great travel agent 🙃

And as for my partner? 10/10 commentary. 0/10 emotional support. 🤣

The World is Waiting 🌎✈️

No photo, documentary, travel guide or Instagram reel can ever fully prepare you for the feeling of actually being there.

Standing beneath mountains so big they make you feel tiny.
Watching a sunset that takes your breath away.
Swimming in water so clear it doesn’t look real.
Experiencing places, people and moments that stay with you long after you’ve returned home.

Every time I travel, I’m reminded of the same thing…

The world is far bigger, more beautiful and more extraordinary than we sometimes remember.

It’s easy to get caught up in routines, responsibilities and the same four walls.

But then you step onto a plane.

Traveller Client Pics 🌍🦒🇿🇦

This was the third trip I’ve planned for Jess & Danny, and I absolutely LOVE booking their holidays because their travel style is so similar to my own.

They’re the kind of travellers who want to really experience a destination. A bit of adventure, lots of exploring, moving around every few days and making every moment count. Boutique hotels with personality, beautiful views, unforgettable experiences and just the right amount of luxury along the way.

When they came to me wanting to plan South Africa, I’d literally just returned from driving the Garden Route myself… so between the three of us, the excitement from that very first call was unmatched!

I already knew how much they were going to fall in love with it.

The scenery. The safari. The food and wine. The atmosphere. The mix of adventure and luxury. It’s one of those destinations that just stays with you long after you leave (I can’t wait to return one day).
