James’s face really does say it all. Sitting having breakfast at Shamwari with a herd of elephants walking past… how do you top that?

Then you’re out on a game drive, watching them up close, and breakfast suddenly has some competition!

These are the moments I love about safari. You can plan your trip, choose a beautiful lodge and head out with a brilliant guide, but the wildlife decides what happens next. That anticipation is part of what keeps bringing me back.

We went out looking for wildlife. We came back with a memory I’ll treasure forever.

Earlier that afternoon at Shamwari, we had watched cheetahs on a successful hunt. Then, as evening fell, we came across this mother and her newborn calf. Its umbilical cord was still visible.

Watching her bend down towards her little one was such a privilege. James and I have been lucky enough to experience some wonderful safaris, but moments like this still stop me in my tracks.

That’s what I love about Africa. You never know what the next game drive will bring, or which moment will stay with you long after you’re home.
