Clackmannan Tower

Clackmannan Tower stands in lofty isolation on King’s Seat Hill, overlooking the town of Clackmannan from its western side. The site is potentially of great antiquity, and almost certainly the location of a royal residence, probably a hunting-lodge, from the 12th century. David II spent his sixth birthday there in 1330.

King David II, son of Robert the Bruce, granted Clackmannan to his kinsman Sir Robert Bruce in 1359. The earliest part of the existing tower seems to date from this period. Extensive alterations to the tower took place in the 1400s, including heightening of the tower and the addition of a second tower to the south, creating an ‘L’ plan. A mansion was added in the late 1500s or 1600s.

Clackmannan remained occupied by the Bruces until the late 1700s. By the end of that century the mansion and tower were abandoned, and the mansion was demolished in the early 1800s.

The Quiraing, Isle of Skye.

As part of the Trotternish ridge the Quiraing has been formed by a massive landslip which has created high cliffs, hidden plateaus and pinnacles of rock. 60 millions years old and today one of the most iconic views in Scotland.

The Quiraing is also a very popular movie location. Here a little list of some of the movies filmed there:

Transformers: The Last Knight - A battle between Arthur and the Saxons used the moody landscape as backdrop.

Macbeth (2015): It was the setting for the point in this Shakespearean adaptation when Macbeth returned from battle and was anointed Thane of Cawdor.

Snow White And The Huntsman: The Quiraing formed the landscape behind the enchanted forest and snow forest.

Stardust (2007): Michelle Pfeiffer's nefarious character Lamia was seen on The Quiraing in this fairy tale flick.

Inverness Castle.

New Inverness Castle sits on a cliff overlooking River Ness. The red sandstone structure evident today was built in 1836 by architect William Burn. It is built on the site of an 11th-century defensive structure.
