"There are tours and tour guides and then there is Ciconia Travel and Aykut. The first will take you to interesting places and tell you about them. The latter will make the whole experience come alive and transport you back in time.

I am writing this on the bus on the road back to Istanbul at the conclusion of our “Highlights of Turkey” tour. It has been a fascinating, engaging and even a life-transforming ten days.

From our first day in Istanbul, Aykut had us enthralled with his historical knowledge and vivid story-telling abilities.
I could see the horses and chariots racing around the hippodrome, I could see the activity in the Agora and the Main Street in Ephesus and the ant-like busyness of the early Christians as they dug the underground city of Kaymakli in Cappadocia.
As we travelled through Turkey, Aykut shared stories of his own life in Turkey in a witty and informative way and made me realise that different religions have far more in common than what sets them apart.

Aykut was ably assisted by our helpful driver Murat, who always has us feeling safe and had the ability to park the bus where I would be worried to put a Suzuki Swift.
