So without stating the obvious, we are living in very uncertain times.
Yes, for sure some people are afraid - and then others are blissfully ignorant or choose to be and then you find a group so steeped in Scripture and totally at peace.
I have always said, if you want to know what is happening in the world today, read the newspapers (back then) now it’s x, telegram, facebook, instagram or your social media of choice. However, if you want to know tomorrow’s news - read the Bible.
Yes, there is a lot of noise and in this age of information, if you do not have discernment, you can find yourself quite fearful and anxious and sharing misinformation.
Life seems to be going on everywhere, seemingly with no personal changes, this will of course continue until the ripple effect of high oil prices hit us.
Needless to say, the current events and economic situation are not good for the travel industry and more so for the clients that have booked and prepared (some of them for more than a year) for a trip / tour that may not take place.
We have an amazing cruise booked - the Heavenly Adriatic (where we get to visit 4 countries - a first for many in the group)
We also get two full jam packed days in Athens, prior to the cruise and then 7 epic days on the Celestyal Journey
Excursions are booked and planned for, and excitement has been running quite high.
So, our current dilemma is twofold;
One, flights are booked through Qatar Air, and only emergency flights are leaving the region (with good cause).
Two, our cruise is booked through the cruise liner Celestyal Journey, which is currently stuck with at least six other cruise liners in the Persian Gulf.
The major cruise ships that I am aware of is the Celestyal Journey, Celestyal Discovery, MSC Euribia, and TUI’s Mein Schiff 4 and 5.
Celestyal Cruises did everything right and cannot be faulted.
They cancelled their last couple of Gulf Sailings in order to reposition timeously to the Mediterranean. However, they too are stuck with merchant and oil vessels.
So, what do we do?
It’s a wait and see game.
All the right processes were followed; travel insurance was dispensed timeously, but it is of no assistance, as this falls under the “Act of War” clause.
Schenghen Visas were processed in record time; one week tops. Incredibly impressive.
We follow Greek pages and news, and life seems to be going on fine there too.
Monastiraki, looks just as bustling as usual.
