It is from the Sunnah for the one intending to offer Qurbani/Udhiyah to avoid cutting their nails or trimming/shaving their hair during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, until their sacrifice has been carried out.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“If the ten days (of Dhul Hijjah) begin and one of you intends to offer a sacrifice, let him not remove anything from his hair or nails until he has offered the sacrifice.”
— Sahih Muslim

Another narration states:
“Do not cut anything from your hair or nails until the sacrifice has been made.”
— Sahih Muslim

There is a difference of opinion among the scholars regarding whether this is obligatory or highly recommended, but many Muslims follow this Sunnah as it carries the spirit and feeling of those performing Hajj, who also refrain from certain acts while in a sacred state.

Once your Qurbani has been completed and confirmed, you may then cut your nails and trim or shave your hair.
