The Bahamas remains one of our favourite fishing destinations. It’s safe, the people are welcoming, and the flats fishing is first class. Beyond the fishing, a visit provides valuable support to the remote local economies of the outer islands 🇧🇸

Tingvoll Lodge: Trøndelag, Norway

Tingvoll Lodge offers a superb Atlantic salmon fishing experience in Norway, easily accessible with direct flights from Gatwick. Situated in the beautiful Trøndelag region, the lodge is a thoughtfully refurbished barn with classic Scandinavian style, offering a comfortable and welcoming base.

Your stay at Tingvoll Lodge is full board, with hearty, home-cooked meals made using fresh local ingredients. The lodge has ten single-occupancy rooms—seven with shared bathrooms and three with private facilities for those who prefer.

Fishing takes place on the Verdal River, a medium-sized river with a steady flow that runs into the Trondheim Fjord. The home beat, just a short walk from the lodge, features six pools linked by runs and glides. Additional leased stretches of the river, both upstream and downstream, are easily reached by car. The Verdal is well known for its big salmon, with fish weighing between 12–16 kilos (25–35lb) caught each season—a key reason many anglers choose to fish here.

The fishing is conservation-focused, with a strict catch-and-release policy to protect salmon stocks. Wading is generally easy, making it suitable for anglers of all abilities, though a wading stick is recommended if water levels are high. Recommended tackle includes double-handed rods (13–15ft, 9–11wt) paired with Scandi or Spey lines and a selection of tips. These can be provided by the lodge as needed.

The lodge is owned and run by John Olav Oldren, who has been dedicated to the Verdal River and its salmon for decades. John began fishing with his grandfather as a child and bought the family farm on the river in 1997. He has served as the River Manager since 2000 and built Tingvoll Lodge in 2004, expanding it in 2023 to its current size. An ambassador for the Atlantic Salmon Trust, John is deeply involved in conservation efforts and has worked tirelessly to protect wild salmon stocks. Known for his warm hospitality, guiding skills, and excellent cooking, John is one of the many reasons guests return year after year.

At the lodge, you can enjoy a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with delicious meals and a selection of beer and wine included. Guests are also encouraged to bring duty-free spirits if they wish. Tingvoll Lodge combines scenic surroundings, expert guidance, and the chance to catch a truly impressive salmon, offering a memorable fishing holiday in Norway.
