Imagine that the first business jet capable of making intercontinental flights was invented by a person who didn’t even have a special education in aeronautics, wasn’t an engineer and didn’t even graduate from school. Unbelievable but true story! The amazing inventor was born at the beginning of the 20th century, when the world more than ever dreamed of aerial challenges and conquering the skies. The name of this game changer was William (Bill) Powell Lear.

His findings in the 1920s led to the invention of the first car radio. That’s how the legendary Motorolla company began its journey.

In the early 1930s, Lear himself began flying on a purchased aircraft and quickly realized that navigation was indispensable for safety in the sky. After spending many long hours with a soldering iron and magnets, he created a unique radio compass for aircrafts.

The story of Lear's inventions does not end there. At the age of 60, he decided to make a private jet based on a jet fighter. A daring and unrealistic plan for those times and beliefs! No wonder none of the competitors and investors trusted in the success of this outrageous project and in the very possibility of receiving such a brilliant (and highly anticipated on the market) piece of machinery from a self-taught amateur.

If only they knew, how wrong they all were! Already on the 7th of October 1963 the first business jet with proud name Learjet 23 embarked on its first flight. The liner was equipped with two turbojet engines and could accommodate 5-7 passengers.

The famous Learjet family lives and develops to this day, but now under the leadership of Bombardier Inc. - Canadian business jet manufacturer.

Have you ever heard such a term? A common expression in business aviation. Let's see what this mysterious phrase actually means 👇🏻

So, Empty Leg stands for an empty flight from the passenger delivery point to the place of the aircraft’s permanent deployment. Basically, it’s the part of the route, during which a private plane flies without passengers or cargo on board.
 
For example, today a jet from Paris is flying to London, and tomorrow there is a scheduled flight to Paris again. In this case, the return flight, without passengers, will be considered the Empty Leg London-Paris. And its price will be significantly lower than the standard cost of a flight of such class.

Why should I rent and even more so buy a private jet? After all, it so expensive!

Sure, we hear you - the question is quite logical and very understandable. Obviously, everyone who uses business aviation services has his/her own reasons. But one way or another it’s interlinked with time, privacy and comfort.

It’s just so much more convenient to arrive at the airport just half an hour before departure, go through speedy procedures and unwind in exclusive VIP terminals. Some airports even allow the option of driving to the aircraft ramp in your own car. Just drive up, get on board and fly away. Sounds so simple and tempting, doesn’t it?
