On this day 113 years ago, on April 5. 1912, SS Californian left London under the command of Captain Stanley Lord, embarking on a journey to Boston. Records suggest that Stanley Lord’s ship happened to be close to empty, not having any passengers on board.
Nine days later, it will be the closest ship to the RMS Titanic disaster location, and probably the only one that could arrive in time to help.
