Have you ever considered exploring Transylvania in Romania by train? 🏰🚆

Famous for its medieval castles, historic towns, Carpathian Mountain landscapes and of course connections to the Dracula legend, Transylvania has plenty to offer and is the perfect destination for October's spooky season.

It's also possible to reach this fascinating region entirely by rail. Travel from London to Vienna, where you can spend some time exploring Austria's capital before boarding the overnight sleeper train into Romania.

Our recommended route through the region by rail:

1) Sighișoara

Arrive by sleeper train into this UNESCO-listed medieval town. Sighișoara is known for its colourful streets and connections to Vlad the Impaler (the inspiration behind Dracula). Highlights include the Clock Tower, Vlad Dracul House and the Covered Stairway to the Church on the Hill.

2) Sibiu

Continue by direct train to Sibiu, a historic Saxon city known for its colourful squares, German-influenced architecture and distinctive rooftops that appear to have eyes. Highlights include the Grand Square, Bridge of Lies and the Council Tower.

3) Brașov

Another direct train will lead you to Brașov, a medieval city surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, known for its Gothic architecture and picturesque Old Town. Highlights include the Black Church, Council Square and panoramic views from Mount Tâmpa.

4) Bran Castle & Râșnov Fortress

Take a day trip from Brașov to discover two of Transylvania's famous fortresses. Learn how Bran Castle is associated with the Dracula legend and enjoy views of the Carpathian mountains surrounding Râșnov Fortress.

Why not extend your Romanian adventure by travelling onwards by train to Constanța, a historic coastal city on the Black Sea or explore Bucharest, Romania’s capital city.

🇨🇭 A few highlights from our recent trip around Switzerland.

We recently had the pleasure of joining Swiss Tailor Made on a trip to explore their programme and discover some of Switzerland's lesser-known destinations.

Our itinerary took us through beautiful Alpine villages, historic towns and spectacular mountain scenery, with plenty of memorable rail experiences along the way.

Some of our highlights included exploring Lenk and Soglio, travelling on the scenic Luzern–Interlaken Express, visiting the Swiss Open-Air Museum at Ballenberg, taking the cableway up Stanserhorn and discovering some excellent hotels, including the Waldhaus Sils and the Lenkerhof Gormet Spa Resort.

🎄Christmas markets with a twist…
