Drawn in today by this Lebanese restaurant, Fauruz in Marylebone, London today. Inspired by (and missing) Dr. Farah Al Haddad . We listen to Fairuz, a Lebanese national icon singer, during our physiotherapy sessions, so I couldn’t resist stopping off for lunch between my medical scan appointments today. 🇱🇧 The Arabic coffee was next level, with extra spices 🌹. My appetite today did not justify such a nice lunch, but I picked at some lovely Fatoush, lamb, humous & Arabic flat bread 🫓.

Summer in this area of London makes you think about the Middle East, with lots of folk stopping over here for summer to cool off from the desert 🏜️ heat.

Quite appropriate for getting my bone scan and thinking about Farah, who has the world’s best healing physio hands ❤️‍🩹 & patience with my discombobulated self 🧘‍♀️.

An update on my medicine trail. We’re now onto long term treatment plan. 💉 The stability & security of being in one place for meds access is starting to pay off 🙏 . I’ll try my first domestic trip later this month, so will test out the cold chain storage. Hopefully I’ll travel internationally again soon. 🔜 ✈️

London has a buzz in the sunshine ☀️ but it’s also sticky hot mid 30oC. 🥵

When I have a doctor appointment, I try to do something fun around it.

Neuro check in today, hopefully for the last time 🙏 at National Neuro hospital.

Today was a nice iced coffee after chiropractor at my local with a nice book about the secrets of London & my fav route maps 🗺️

Then a trip to Kings Cross to see National Geographic Traveller Photography display in the street. Camera📸

Then a walk to Bloomsbury and a trip down memory lane near to where I used to study 20 years ago.

There’s a delicious taiwanese pearl bubble cha 珍珠奶茶 place in Brunswick Square The Brunswick Shopping Centre | Bloomsbury London Truedan UK 英國珍煮丹 . I love the grass jelly green lemon tea - so refreshing! Yum😋

The good, bad and the ugly.
Same week, one specialist rejection, a year wait for rheumatology, from the same specialist I already see and have complex meds from, and one quick acceptance to special unit for blood clots.
And a few more referral handovers to go, but only one at a time with GP slots at this rate will take all year too 😩.

****How have you navigated NHS referrals, rejections, wait list?****

I haven’t used the NHS much since Covid times, and it never used to be this difficult to receive ongoing treatment and specialist care. Of course there were issues before then, but there’s now very little continuity unless the specialist advocates for you (as in my haematology quick case), assuming they don’t cancel it!

At this rate, I’m questioning my decision to move back to the U.K.! The costs of moving home would probably cover my health insurance for several years overseas for quicker, more immediate and continuous care… let’s see if it’s worth it!

Navigating the system yourself with complex, multiple diseases really is a mine field, let alone when not feeling well. Let’s not even mention physio and other therapies!
