Cenotes are one of the things that make visiting this part of Mexico so unique, and are a brilliant way to cool off after time exploring.

Some are an adventure in themselves, hidden away in the jungle, and others are right where you least expect them like this one, Cenote Zaci in Valladolid, surprisingly located in the centre of town. It was incredible to jump in with the buzz of the nearby streets so close by.

Cenotes are natural sinkholes formed over millions of years, where the limestone has collapsed to reveal the crystal-clear freshwater beneath.

There are more than 3,000 cenotes across the Yucatán Peninsula. Many are part of a vast network of underground waterways, connected to each other beneath the surface.

Our Cenote experiences have been great fun and such a memorable part of our holiday here.

Not long until my own summer holiday to Mexico!

I’m no different to my clients when it comes to having very specific requirements for my perfect family holiday.  The only difference being that I am briefing myself!

This year we were looking for a long-haul ‘soft adventure’, somewhere fun and different, with contrasting destinations, plenty to do and time to relax too. We decided on Mexico and will be exploring the Yucatán Peninsula.

A big consideration when choosing our accommodation was finding places where we could be together but also have our own space, so for the longer stays of the trip I focused on finding hotels with two-bedroom suites or similar.

My boys love a big breakfast, we ‘grown-ups’ love trying different places to eat, and I’m passionate about being in and around the water - so the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and the numerous cenotes (crystal-clear natural swimming holes formed in underground caves) all played a big part in choosing our hotels, destinations and route.

We’ve objectively chosen (no perks or incentives) to stay in Tulum NUEVA VIDA TULUM HOTEL, Chichen Itza Hacienda Chichen Resort , Valladolid WAYE HOTEL & PLAZA and Holbox Aldea Kuká. If they are as good in real life as they look in the clips here, we’re going to be a very happy family! 🌴
