After visiting thousands of hotels around the world, it takes a lot for a hotel to genuinely surprise me.

Royal Mansour Marrakech did. ROYAL MANSOUR MARRAKECH HOTEL

There are more expensive hotels. Newer hotels. Hotels with bigger rooms, longer wine lists and more Michelin stars. But very few have this level of soul, craftsmanship and obsessive attention to detail.

There are no corridors lined with rooms here. You get the keys to your own private riad, hidden within a medina of gardens, courtyards and alleyways. Much of what surrounds you was created by Moroccan artisans using techniques passed down through generations.

But what impressed me most wasn’t the obvious luxury.

It was how effortlessly everything works.

After a lifetime spent in hotels, I’ve become convinced that the best ones aren’t those that give you the most — they’re the ones where nothing feels like it needs changing.

Royal Mansour is one of those rare places.

Finally, a great hotel in this part of town.

I’ve always liked Notting Hill — it has that rare balance of feeling like a real neighbourhood, not just a scene. And Westbourne Grove remains one of the best stretches in London for a proper wander.

I stayed a couple of nights at Six Senses London, and it already feels like it belongs.

Set inside The Whiteley — an incredible Grade II listed building and once one of London’s finest department stores — the contrast works.

Historic bones, but with the easy, warm design that Six Senses does so well.

It has that effortless rhythm — quietly confident, not trying too hard.

The kind of place you check into… or just drift into for a long lunch that turns into dinner.
