Wishing all Pakistanis around the world and in Pakistan 🇵🇰 Happy Independence Day.

Today is not just a celebration of independence but also one of remembrance, of all those who sacrificed their lives to create a sovereign country for us.

Sometimes when we have something given on a plate, we can take it for granted.

For the Pakistani diaspora, some may see it as the home of their parents or grandparents , others may see it as home, some may feel no connection and only have negative connotations, today is about remembering how a country was created and the sacrifices involved.

A country is like your baby and its citizens are the parents, our role it is to raise and nurture our country and community in the direction we would like and how we would like the world to see our child.

Parenthood is never easy and at the moment every country including the UK and US are at a loss. For many of us around the world it’s one of the hardest time we’ve seen at a global level after the Second World War.

Today let’s all reflect Pakistani’s and Non-Pakistani’s, don’t think about what the country is doing for you, each of you ask yourself what role are you playing, how can you help make your country become more inclusive, more united and full of opportunity for the next generation.

At Xperience Pakistan and Sikhana my purpose is not to just talk or complain, it’s about rolling my sleeves up to do something about it.

Although this is AI generated and a bit slow but the video goes through the lives sacrificed in the making of Pakistan as well as some of the stars born from Pakistan.

As Pakistanis, particularly overseas having a country and an identity is taken for granted perhaps because our generation and subsequent generations have not seen the bloodshed which arose in the process of creating it.

As overseas parents it’s so important that we teach our children the story behind their roots, they may not share the love or connection the first generation have but the greatest insult to the shaheed (those who died in the process) is not to acknowledge and tell their stories, so future generations can at least respect and not take for granted the identity we have.

As generations pass by, it may become diluted but somewhere in our day to day lives through food, clothing our hospitality it will always be a part of us.

There are good and bad to all societies and countries but to show Pakistan positively is all of our duty, not just for a few politicians or celebrities, we all have our own platform amongst our peer group.

Do show at least the first 30 seconds of this video to your children and you may need to translate for them.

Pakistan is not perfect but it is no worse then many countries around the world, we all have to do our bit and if we don’t, we don’t have any right to criticise it either.

This Saturday 15th August we are congregating to celebrate the independence of Pakistan in Gerrads cross community association to not only show respect for those who died but also to celebrate the Pakistani diaspora.
