Feast Day of St Margaret Clitherow! ✨

I’ve learned so much about St Margaret Clitherow since moving here, but nothing prepares you for standing in York and realizing what she chose.

On March 25th 1586, Good Friday and the Annunciation, she died for the faith she refused to deny.

A wife, a mother, and one of the most extraordinary witnesses in England’s story.

The Pearl of York.

St Margaret Clitherow, pray for us!✨

If you want to learn more about her life, I’ve written an article sharing her story. Link in bio.

Today we remember Saint Nicholas Owen. ✨

Born in Oxford, he was a Jesuit lay brother, not a priest, but his work became essential to the survival of the Catholic faith in England.

At a time when priests were hunted and executed, Nicholas built priest holes, hidden spaces inside homes where they could escape capture during raids.

These were not simple hiding places.
They were carefully constructed, often within walls, staircases, and chimneys, designed to mislead even the most determined searchers.

He worked alone.
If captured, no one else could betray the locations.

Many of his hiding places still survive today, especially at Harvington Hall.

In 1606, he was arrested and taken to the Tower of London.

Authorities believed he knew the locations of priests and safe houses. They tortured him to force him to speak.

He said nothing.

He died from his injuries.

A contemporary, Henry Garnet, wrote that he was
“the immediate occasion of the preservation of many hundreds of persons.”

Nicholas Owen never preached publicly.
He built in silence, protected in secrecy, and carried those secrets to his death.

Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph✨
guardian of the Holy Family, a carpenter, a protector, and a man entrusted with an extraordinary role in salvation history.

His life reminds us that God often works through the ordinary - through quiet obedience, steady faith, and the courage to say yes without needing to be seen.

A day to honor the man who stood at the heart of the greatest story ever told.

St. Joseph, pray for us. 🙏🏼

Mother’s Day in the UK isn’t tied to a fixed date. It follows the rhythm of the Church calendar and falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, traditionally called Mothering Sunday.

In medieval England, people would return to their “mother church”, the cathedral or main church where they were baptized. For many working far from home, it was one of the few days they were allowed to return to their families.

Over time, the tradition naturally became a day to honor mothers too.

A reminder that this celebration began not with cards or flowers, but with homecoming, faith, and family.

Happy Mothering Sunday 🤍

Two Marian shrines. One Mother.

In September, we’ll visit Glastonbury and Walsingham, places that shaped England’s identity as Our Lady’s Dowry.

Glastonbury holds ancient Christian roots and centuries of Marian devotion.
Walsingham, “England’s Nazareth”, became one of Europe’s great pilgrimage sites before the Reformation, and today pilgrims still walk the Holy Mile.

To stand in both is to trace a story of faith, loss, and renewal.

September 2026. Come walk it with us.

Walk the story of Catholic England - slowly, prayerfully, and together.

Roots & Renewal: Oxford, Bath & the Cotswolds is a pilgrimage shaped by daily Mass, historic places, countryside beauty, and shared moments of discovery. From Newman’s Oxford and England’s Marian heart at Glastonbury, to quiet villages and rolling hills, this journey balances faith, friendship, reflection, and joy.

Led in collaboration with and accompanied by a priest of the Marian Fathers, this is a pilgrimage for those who want more than sightseeing - time to pray, to learn, and to be renewed.

✨ Roots & Renewal: Oxford, Bath & the Cotswolds - September 2026

Quiet places. Open landscapes. Space to reflect.

The Cotswolds are where the journey becomes quieter.

After the energy and richness of Oxford and Bath, this part of the trip offers space to reflect - to enjoy nature, wander through beautiful places, and notice God in the stillness and beauty around us.

Here, faith isn’t found in crowds or great buildings, but in open skies, winding paths, and moments of quiet attention.

This is time to slow down, walk gently, and let the experience deepen.
