Vinicunca, Montaña de Siete Colores, Montaña de Colores or Rainbow Mountain... whatever you call it this place is amazing! The coloured mountain in Peru has taken instagram by storm in the last few years for its unique layers and colours. Located in the Andes of Peru, close to Cusco and Machu Picchu, it’s no easy climb, at 5,200 meteres above sea level you quickly find yourself out of breath during the 4KM trek. A lot of people I spoke to found this trek harder than the Salkantay trek, personally I found this one to be slightly easier than Salkantay. It took me two hours to get to the top and even after 5 days of trekking to Salkantay I thought I would be fine but nop, the altitude did get to me at certain points and I’m not going to lie I was tempted to get on a horse for the last 30 minutes but I told myself no, you can do this! And I did 😁 Lol.
TIPS : 💴 Buy tickets in cusco it’s so much cheaper! Don’t buy online it’s not worth it you’ll be ripped off. I chose to go with and I highly recommend them, I also did my Salkantay trek with them, they are awesome and have their office based in the city centre of cusco. Be prepared to be picked up between 2:30am-5am. There are horses along the way if you do struggle. My advice is take your time and do not push yourself, not to scare you but there were people on oxygen and I came across a lady who had fainted along the way. Take your time, bring coca leaves to chew on (I swear if it wasn’t for these amazing leaves I would have fainted along the way I’m sure of it. Coca leaves are a MUST!) water, snacks, SPF and wear hiking boots.
