How are you staying fit during lock down? 💪 In the UK we have been told we can only exercise in public once per day (which we know is more than many of you have been allowed internationally, and believe me we are so grateful of this opportunity to get outside🙌🌞). For me (Nikki) I have been doing solo runs🏃🏼♀️ of 3-6 miles most days, with a few non-run days of simply being active by walking around the neighbourhood. Having been used to doing several running tours per week, on top of training for the 2020 London Marathon and teaching gym classes this is a real drop in activity. The training I am currently doing is for maintenance – to keep my fitness levels up, and to not worry about speed or distance. Just to be grateful that I am physically able to run, and to enjoy the exercise endorphins and mood elevation that these outings bring. 😁
I’ve also been doing home workouts (hopefully ones that won’t annoy the neighbours so no jumping haha!). There are loads of great paid and free workouts online. 💻For runners I really recommend exercises that strengthen the core, back and legs, and those which activate your glutes. Just a small amount of strengthening our bodies now will pay dividends when it comes to not getting injured later! 👌Whilst some workouts require weights not everyone has those at home, so it's possible to be creative and use household items to add resistance (examples such as cookbooks, 📚plant pots,🌱canned food, 🥫water bottles🥤 etc.), plus bodyweight 💪alone is still a fantastic way to do strength exercises.
Don’t feel guilty that you’re not in beast mode. Even if we put on a few pounds we will lose them again after this. Some of you might not even feel like working out at all and that’s fine too. 🤗 Noone should feel guilty that they’re not doing everything they normally would right now. For me exercise brings happiness in these surreal and uncertain days. Races,🏅 travel ✈️and Love London Running Tours 🏃♂️will all be there again in the future, and we will enjoy them all the more when that time comes! For now please stay safe, exercise sensibly and come join a Love London Running Tour soon! 😊
