⚠️ Nigeria Coup Plot Shocker: Inside the Profiles of 16 Officers Now in Detention 🇳🇬
Nigeria’s military is once again in the spotlight — this time over an alleged coup plot that has led to the detention of 16 serving officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
While investigations are still ongoing, here’s what is known so far about the men reportedly under questioning — their backgrounds, service history, and past controversies.
🪖 1. Brigadier General Musa Abubakar Sadiq
At the centre of the storm is Brig. Gen. Sadiq, a 51-year-old officer from Nasarawa State, believed to be the alleged ringleader. Trained at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) between 1992 and 1997, he belongs to the Infantry Corps and rose to brigadier general in 2019.
Sadiq previously commanded both the 3rd Brigade in Kano and the 81 Division Garrison in Lagos.
He’s no stranger to controversy — in 2024, he was reportedly detained for alleged diversion of palliatives and the sale of military assets.
🪖 2. Colonel M. A. Ma’aji
From Niger State, 49-year-old Col. Ma’aji (service no. N/10668) is said to have played a major “strategic role” in the alleged plot. A member of Regular Course 47, he’s a battle-tested infantry officer who once commanded the 19 Battalion in Okitipupa, Ondo State and took part in Operation Crocodile Smile II in 2017.
📡 3. Lt. Colonel S. Bappah
From Bauchi State, 41-year-old Lt. Col. Bappah is with the Signals Corps. He trained at the NDA between 2004 and 2008 as part of Regular Course 56 — the same course as several other detained officers.
🪖 4. Lt. Colonel A. A. Hayatu
Born in 1983 and from Kaduna State, Lt. Col. Hayatu (service no. N/13038) is also of Regular Course 56 and serves in the Infantry Corps.
🪖 5. Lt. Colonel P. Dangnap
A familiar name to military watchers, Lt. Col. Dangnap from Plateau State was among 30 officers court-martialed in 2015 over alleged misconduct during the Boko Haram war. He’s now back in the news, this time linked to the coup investigation.
🪖 6. Lt. Colonel M. Almakura
Also from Nasarawa State, Lt. Col. Almakura (born 1983) is another Infantry officer from the NDA’s Regular Course 56.
🪖 7–11. The Majors Group
A cluster of mid-level officers — Majors A.J. Ibrahim (Gombe), M.M. Jiddah (Katsina), M.A. Usman (FCT), D. Yusuf (Gombe), and I. Dauda (Jigawa) — make up the next tier of suspects.
Most were trained between 2004 and 2012 at the NDA or through Short Service Courses. Some held field command or ordnance roles, with ages ranging from 35 to 42.
⚓ 12–16: Other Officers Under Detention
The remaining officers include:
• Capt. Ibrahim Bello (Direct Short Service Course 43)
• Capt. A.A. Yusuf
• Lt. S.S. Felix
• Lt. Cmdr. D.B. Abdullahi (Nigerian Navy)
• Sqn. Ldr. S.B. Adamu (Nigerian Air Force)
Limited details have emerged about this final group, but all are currently being held pending investigation.
