One of Tuscany's oldest traditions flows straight from the earth. Ancient thermal baths, volcanic mineral waters, and timeless wellness rituals make the region's hot springs an experience worth slowing down for. 💧♨️

Lake Como or Lake Garda? It comes down to the pace you're after and how you want to spend your days.

Como is slower: wooden boats, hillside villas, an afternoon with no plan beyond a table by the water. Garda is livelier: bigger, more active, better if you want to bike or have busier days.

New on The Travel Journal: where to stay on each lake, how to spend your days, and which one might fit the trip you're picturing.

There's a version of Christmas that only exists in Lapland. Reindeer sleighs through snow-covered forest, an evening around a Sami campfire while the aurora borealis dances overhead, a snowmobile safari ending at a remote log cabin for gingerbread and stories by the fire. Somewhere in there, you'll also meet Santa in the place he calls home.

Planning a trip well is a two-way street. After years of working with all kinds of travellers, I've noticed that the trips that come together most smoothly share a few things in common: clients who come early, share their real budget, and trust the expertise behind each recommendation.

For most trips, six months is a good starting point, and for something bigger like a honeymoon, a safari, or a destination wedding, a year out is ideal. Every recommendation I make is grounded in a genuine understanding of your travel style, your pace, and your priorities, and an honest conversation about budget is what makes all of it possible.

I've written a full guide on what makes the client-advisor relationship work, from communication to understanding the real value of booking through an advisor. Read it at the link below before your next trip.

Norman arches, Arab domes, and Byzantine mosaics all sit side by side in Palermo. Once you really see those layers, the whole city opens up in front of you.

This is the kind of place the art-history side of me wants to slow right down for: a week staying put in one city, going deep with a local expert instead of rushing through five. Palermo rewards that kind of attention.

There's a lot more in my latest Travel Journal post, "Beyond Sightseeing" — the course, the program it's part of, and why this slower way of travelling stays with you. You'll find the Travel Journal linked in my bio.
