The Venus Garden is now open to the public, and it’s gorgeous. The yew hedges are laid out in a design that maps the transit of Venus. Some fine statues too, including the Gladiator by Hubert le Sueur, based on a Roman sculpture.

Day trip to Lewes, in Sussex. Castle remains with super views, Anne of Cleves House (she never stayed there), Priory ruins, 1264 Battle of Lewes, and a nice pint of Harvey’s. What a lovely day!

Fantastic tour of the Battle of Britain bunker at Hillingdon. You descend 76 steps to rooms where extraordinary people worked tirelessly to defend Britain in the summer of 1940. Fascinating exhibits, including sections on the Polish pilots, who had the second largest squadron in the battle.

The Installation of the 531st Master Vintner, Ian Harris. By tradition the W**e Porter sweeps the streets as the new Master and his wardens process to the church of St James Garlickhythe. Good luck Ian!
