When we set off on this Little Less Known 2.0 adventure, we made a list of all the places we wanted to feature. Up at the top was Mercato Metropolitano. The entire company ethos feels so closely aligned with our own beliefs. Shining spotlights on independent vendors, celebrating urban architecture hiding in plain sight and focusing on quality over quantity. All three MM sites in London stay true to this but we had to come and check out the one in a giant church… JUST LOOK AT IT!

A bit later than planned but we’re super excited to share our brand new video “What’s Your Passion? The Tintype Photographer” with The Tintype Studio James Millar

I have followed James on Instagram for a while and found his tintype photography style fascinating. It’s like stepping into a Time Machine and having a portrait taken.

“What is tintype photography?” I hear you ask… well listen to James, in his own words, explain the process and we hope you fall in love with him and his work as we have. I love being back with Little Less Known and getting to meet inspiring artisans doing work like this!! It’s a really special video this one!

What's Your Passion? The Sculptor.

Lee Borthwick is the first artist in the return of our “What’s Your Passion?” series. Her sculptures blend the organic forms of wood with mirror. That mix of organic and synthetic materials creates something new and unique in every piece Lee makes.

In the video Lee narrates how she got into her work and why she loves what she does. We really hope you love Lee and her designs as much as us. She creates some really unique pieces and is just a blimmin’ lovely person to boot!

Little Less Known is back! Join us for the launch on Sunday 12th March on YouTube.

Back in 2014, we [Scott, Sandy and Ben] created the YouTube channel Little Less Known (LLK) as a way of showcasing independent businesses and inspiring human stories. We had just finished our degrees and wanted a creative outlet whilst we were looking to start our careers. We are all passionate about the independent scene and we couldn’t get over the fact that tourism boards didn’t mention those off-the-beaten-track places.

We set out to share our favourite places and discover new ones along the way whilst showcasing the people who brought these locations to life. Alongside the locations, we introduced artisans to our audience - celebrating the skill and artistry in their craft. We never expected to meet so many creative and inspiring individuals when we started the journey, many of them we are still in contact with. LLK became a place to discover people as well as places.

It’s been 6 years since we made our last video. A lot has changed in those 6 years. Returning to the channel at some point was always in the back of our minds but we were never sure how to approach it. Cue a world-halting pandemic and tough socio-economic times… those lesser known places deserve a spotlight shining on them more than ever before and we should be celebrating people doing awesome things. This feels like the right time to grab the camera and get exploring again.

We’re going to be releasing videos twice a month…biweekly if you will… on YouTube. A mix of free to visit tourism spots, independent businesses and artisan features. You can also find us here on Instagram. Each new video will come with a Substack newsletter too, diving into the locations we visit/people we meet so head to the link in our bio and subscribe to that!

This was a mammoth post so thanks for making it to the bottom. We’re excited for you to see what we’ve been working on. All we have left to say is: see you on Sunday. Take care and all the best.
