What is one of the best parts of travelling? Eating mouthwatering food, of course!

Vietnamese cuisine is characterised by fresh tastes, with lots of vegetables, an abundance of seafood, and lighter dishes that leave you satiated. 🇻🇳

When talking about Vietnamese food, you have to mention the national dish Pho. This soup is made with a clear broth, traditionally made from beef, that is simmered anywhere between 3 and 12 hours to extract all of the delicious flavours. Combined with rice noodles, herbs, lime, and some chilli slices, it blends perfectly into a bowl of tastiness.

Cà phê trứng is a Hanoi drink speciality. Also known as “egg coffee,” it’s made with Robusta coffee beans and egg that is beaten with condensed milk to make a frothy and sweet coffee. Invented during the 1940s when milk was scarce, it’s become a staple drink to have when visiting Hanoi.

For dessert, everyone must try Chè chuối, made from bananas that are simmered in coconut milk and added tapioca pearls; it hits the spot with its sweet taste and satisfying textures.

Bánh mì is a short baguette that is filled with Vietnamese ingredients from meat to vegetables and herbs that are common in other local dishes, and has become a popular street food.

Since the moment humans could speak, we have told stories. Our history, the world around us, was passed down orally. Stories became legends, legends became myths. Myths have been retold, reshaped, and now, with the newest adaptation of The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan, myth is hitting the big screens.

We couldn’t help but think about the real-life places behind the well-known — and the lesser-known — legends around the world that once were the backdrop for the heroes and villains.

Stand in the place that King Midas is said to have washed his hands of his golden touch curse in Sardes, Turkey, or visit the cave system in Bulgaria where Orpheus entered the Underworld to save his love, Eurydice, to a modern story that may one day become a myth in itself, the Gates of Hell in Turkmenistan.

What myth would you chase across the map?

Forget what you know about Voodoo from Hollywood movies — the reality is much more interesting!

A complex West African religion, Voodoo focuses on healing, connecting with nature-related spirits, and coping with everyday challenges with your community. Earlier this year, our Operations Manager, Anthony, went on one of our trips visiting Togo & Benin. In his blog, you can read all about the people he met, what the spiritual practice is really about, and what to expect on our Togo & Benin: Voodoo Explorer tour.

Guinea-Bissau's Bijagos archipelago consists of 88 islands, only about 20 of which are inhabited, mostly by the BijagĂł people which you can visit on our Senegal, Gambia & The Bijagos Archipelago Of Guinea-Bissau trip.

The BijagĂł have a matrilineal society where clan names, property and lineage are passed down through the maternal line. Women choose their husbands and hold authority over the economy, law and spirituality.

One of the most fascinating cultural experiences here is the Vaca Bruto (Wild Bull) mask ceremony. During this rite of passage into adulthood, young boys wear heavy wooden bull masks, embodying the spirit of the animal. They act out a fierce bullfight to prove their strength and power before finally emerging as men.

Following the recent news that Sri Lanka is going visa-free for travellers from more than 40 countries (including the UK, US and Australia), we thought we’d take a closer look at how many of the destinations we visit offer visa-free travel.

Turns out, it’s quite a few! An impressive 70% of our destinations are now either visa-free or have no visa costs for UK travellers.

Perhaps we’re showing our age, but we remember when getting a visa could be quite the hassle (don’t get us started on Tajikistan, where the nearest consulate used to be in Brussels!).

While it’s still a little trickier for destinations such as Turkmenistan and Algeria, even those are becoming easier to visit.

That’s one less thing to think about if you’re planning a last-minute adventure!

*The countries featured were visa-free for UK passport holders as of 1st July 2026. Before you travel, always check the latest entry and visa requirements for your destination, as rules can change often at short notice.

Today is World Horse Day! Just last year, the day was officially named by the UN General Assembly to recognise the importance horses have had, and continue to have, on humanity.

Recently, our Operations Manager, Chloe, went on our trip to Kyrgyzstan. Having a BSc degree in Equestrian Sports Science, Chloe is a lover of horses and passionate about their welfare. She saw just how fundamental they are to nomadic lifestyles in Kyrgyzstan and to the livelihoods of local families; as such, they are treated as Kings and Queens with the utmost respect.

Horses are often included in many games in Kyrgyzstan, such as Kok Boru. Two teams try to move a goat’s carcass (now usually replaced with a fake goat) and score by putting it into the opposing team's goal.

We still have a few spaces remaining for the World Nomad Games, which will be in Kyrgyzstan this year, so you can witness these amazing traditional games in person.
