Some good news to start the week! A rare Amur tiger has been released in Kazakhstan with the aim of restoring the population. Umit is a female tiger, and her name means “Hope” in Kazakh. This project has been in the works for many years. The Ile-Balkhash Nature Reserve, where Umit has been released, has been part of the project since 2018, when the programme started restoring and reforesting the area and introducing prey species that tigers would hunt, such as boar and deer.

Umit is the first of four tigers to be released in the area. She passed all health, hunting, and behavioral assessments and now will be tracked to ensure she adapts to her new environment and that the country can have a healthy population of tigers in the future.

Kaziranga National Park in Assam, India, is often considered one of the best conservation parks in the country. Home to around 70% of the world’s one-horned rhino population, it also offers incredible opportunities to spot buffalo, Indian elephants, and, although elusive, signs of tigers throughout the park.

You may remember that our Director of Product and Operations, Marc, and Head of Operations, Sarah, went to Delhi earlier in the year to train our guides in India; well, we thought we’d let you in on a bit of the behind-the-scenes of what they got up to!
 
It’s not all work and no play; Marc and Sarah were able to experience a bit of what Delhi has to offer — even if they did go during the peak heat! Kite flying, watching dance performances, and exploring sites with the guides were just a few things that they got to enjoy.
 
We’d like to earnestly thank our guides, from India and beyond, who are continuously honing their craft🫶

With over 90% of its wildlife found nowhere else on Earth, Madagascar's rainforests come alive with the calls of lemurs and the melodic song of its birdlife, while forest floors are carpeted in colourful flower petals and landscapes shift from lush tropics to arid thickets. Here are some of the best national parks to experience it all.

Ranomafana is a tropical rainforest full of waterfalls, hot springs, and famous for its rare wildlife. With a specialist guide, you will hopefully be able to spot an array of birdlife, butterflies, reptiles, and the endangered bamboo lemur.

A walking safari through Isalo National Park will transport you into a landscape of Jurassic-period sandstone formations. A contrast to the many forested national parks on the island, the deep canyons and natural pools are home to Benson’s rock-thrush and Madagascar coucal.

Andasibe is a tropical rainforest that houses Madagascar’s largest lemur, “Indri Indri”. It’s a spectacular place for plant lovers and birdwatchers, with a wide variety of rare and beautiful orchids and over 100 species of birds, including the magnificent blue coua

Tsingy de Bemaraha is an otherworldly setting with natural rock pinnacles that make you imagine you’re walking through a stone forest on another planet.
