A small homage to the lovely Scouts field campsite.

The site is a 1 acre field located behind the May Hill village hall. It has a barn equipped with a basic kitchen, toilets, showers, and hand basins.

Its the perfect spot for a gathering, event, or party like the recent Woody gathering by the Land workers alliance (LWA) that set up these spaces recently for their annual event.

Join Learn Bushcraft at The Roundhouse on Saturday 20th June for a hands-on day exploring traditional and modern butchery techniques. Learn to process large game using both Neolithic and contemporary tools, discover how different parts of the carcass can be utilised, and gain fascinating insights into their ancestral relationship with food and resources.

To top it all off, enjoy a delicious woodland feast prepared by their resident chef, Matt. 🌿🍖

Thank you, LWA, for bringing the annual Woody gathering to May Hill!

Over the weekend, 100+ people from across the UK with a shared love of woodlands came together to share resources & information, learn skills, and have fun!

It was a pleasure to host this event at the Scouts field campsite. We look forward to joining again next year in another beautiful part of the country.

May Hill Woodlands is proud to host this year's annual woody gathering, which is a meeting of woodland workers who form a sub group of the Land Workers Alliance.

Over the weekend, there will be a range of walks, talks and demonstrations about all things woody. And im sure there will be plenty of singing and celebrating around the fire.

Merry May Day from Merry May Hill!

Once again, the hardy local folk of May Hill village and surrounds, rose before the dawn to greet the sunrise on the summit of May Hill on the first day of May.

This ancient tradition is thought to be why May Hill earned its name, as it was once called Yartleton Hill based on old tithe maps.

This is part of the old Beltane rituals, going back through the ages to when the early Britons would celebrate the arrival of spring on this auspicious day.
