🚨🌊 DROWNING PREVENTION WEEK 2026 🌊🚨
📅 Saturday 13th – Friday 19th June
Water can be fun, exciting and full of adventure... but it can also be dangerous in seconds.
Every year, lives are lost because people underestimate the risks around the coast, rivers, lakes, canals and even paddling areas. The heart breaking reality is that many of these tragedies are preventable.
💙 Whether you're a parent, grandparent, teenager or young adventurer, knowing what to do around water could save a life, maybe even your own.
⚠️ Parents & Carers
👀 Always keep children within arm's reach near water. 📱 Put phones away and avoid distractions. 🦺 Use appropriate buoyancy aids when needed. 🗣️ Teach children about water safety before they visit the beach, river or lake.
🌊 Young People & Teenagers
❌ Don't jump into unknown water. ❌ Don't take part in dangerous social media challenges. ❌ Never swim alone. 📞 If someone is in trouble, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard at the coast or the appropriate emergency service inland.
🆘 Remember: FLOAT TO LIVE
If you unexpectedly fall into cold water:
✔️ Tilt your head back ✔️ Keep your ears submerged ✔️ Relax and try to control your breathing ✔️ Move your hands to help you stay afloat ✔️ Once breathing is under control, call for help or swim to safety
The water around us is there to be enjoyed, but it deserves respect.

I found this helium balloon last night in the cow field. If any livestock had eaten it, they could have died. Please please 🙏do not release balloons into the countryside, as you could be responsible for a death of animals ingest them.
