Check out this beautiful part of Switzerland and our recent tour there as we discovered its top wine region - Bündner Herrschaft - and its epic scenery - the home of famous fictional character Heidi!

The German-speaking part of Switzerland, in the north, east and central parts represent about two-thirds of the surface area of the country - and in terms of wine, represents about 18% of total Swiss wine production - a diverse region covering 17 different cantons, with Zurich being the largest wine-growing area. What may surprise you is that red wines dominate here (especially Pinot Noir or 'Blauburgunder') - and there are some excellent wines here! It's also an amazing wine region to explore, especially if you love spectacular mountain scenery and love the outdoors!

One of the most beautiful and historic cities in Northern Italy is Verona - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a showcase of Italy's cultural wealth and beauty, it is full of historic wonders such as its spectacular Roman amphitheatre (home to the famous Verona Opera). Verona is also known as the 'city of love', being the inspiration for Shakespeare's masterpiece, Romeo and Juliet. In addition, Verona is one of just 12 cities around the globe which form the 'Great Wine Capital's Network', being surrounded by many of Italy's famous wine regions and on the doorstep of beautiful Lake Garda. Verona is the perfect wine tourism destination with so much to discover and if you haven't been before, we strongly suggest it should be on your list!

A wonderful way to discover the historic Lavaux vineyards on Lake Geneva, Switzerland is to make the round trip Lausanne - Montreux by boat, then return by bike. What an incredible experience - a magical day enjoying the beautiful scenery from the lake, of the vineyards one one side and the mountains on the other - followed by time on the promenade at Montreux, home to the famous Montreux Jazz Festival. Then a wonderful bike ride around the shores of Lake Geneva back to Lausanne, through the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Lavaux Vineyard Terraces.

What a fabulous hike yesterday in the spectacular Yorkshire Dales, with expert local guide and author (and friend of many years), Jonathan Smith of ...
We had a glorious time discovering the lesser-known hills and valleys of the 'real' Yorkshire Dales and we had it all to ourselves (oh and just a few sheep)! Miles of stunning vistas, rolling meadows and farmland, limestone scenery, sleepy hamlets and the distinctive Yorkshire dry-stone walls.
Finishing our 14-15k hike didn't seem appropriate with a glass of wine in the fabulous Game C**k pub in Austwick - it just had to be a pint of Ale!
We can highly recommend discovering the best of this beautiful part of England with who is highly knowledgable, personable and fun (and he also runs a range of guided tours in the Lake District, N.Yorkshire and Northumberland).

We were fortunate enough recently to experience the best introduction to Switzerland's UNESCO World Heritage Site Lavaux vineyards - on a Walk & wine Lavaux vineyard walking tour. Wow what an experience!
The historic Lavaux terraced vineyards, lined with dry-stone walls dating back 1000 years in places, stretch out across beautiful Lake Geneva between Lausanne and Montreux in the Swiss wine region of Vaud. We were truly blown away by the incredible heritage and scenery but also the passion and dedication of the people of Lavaux, in preserving this incredible site and its traditions.
