🇮🇳 Clare’s Indian Adventure Diary - Day 2, Delhi 🇮🇳
After breakfast we boarded our coach and headed into Old Delhi. Passing ancient ruins on the way and seeing how life is here. A very visible blend of wealth and poverty. Climbing onto a Rickshaw in 38 degree heat and riding through the small streets of Old Delhi was an experience, a complete attack on all senses! The sounds of the vehicle horns, local music and conversation. The tuk-tuk and motorbikes speeding past us and the rickshaw rider doing amazingly well, avoiding the potholes and street dogs 🐕
After the craziness of our ride, our next stop was a lot more sedate. The beautiful and tranquil gardens of Birla House. A Museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. Here is where Gandhi spent the last days of his life, before being assasinated in the grounds.
Lunch was next and I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t get a picture. We were taken to a local restaurant and the food was so wonderful and plentiful, that I got stuck in and forgot a photo!
Qutub Minar was our next visit. With the sun blazing and Red Kites soaring overhead, we explored the old mosque and its grounds. Buzzing with visitors and squirrels 🐿️ everywhere.
The last stop of the day, was Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. A gorgeous Sikh Temple. Here we covered our heads and walked barefoot. Not only used for worship, the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib kitchen operates one of the largest free community kitchens in the world. Serving freshly cooked, hot vegetarian meals to 30,000 to 40,000 people daily! It runs 24/7, 365 days a year, welcoming all visitors regardless of religion. We got to explore the vast kitchens, whilst the cooking was being done. Incredible place, packed with worshippers and curious tourists like us!
Then we returned to the hotel for a much needed freshen up and then a wonderful dinner 🍚 😋
Can’t wait for Day 3….destination Agra 🇮🇳
