🌸 Barbara Experiences

The experiences I think are worth travelling for.

For a long time, I thought this series began when I became a travel designer.

Then, a few days ago, I found something that made me smile.

A collection of Facebook posts I had written almost fourteen years ago.

As I read them again, I realised something I had never noticed before.

Long before I discovered Mauritius.

Long before I visited luxury hotels.

Long before BM Travel Designer even existed…

I was already collecting experiences.

I wasn’t simply travelling.

I was stopping.

Stopping long enough to feel a place, because I somehow knew that one day the details would fade, but the feeling would stay with me forever.

I just didn’t know it yet.

Looking back, I realise that Barbara Experiences didn’t begin today.

They’ve been quietly growing inside me for years.

This series is my invitation to travel a little differently.

Not only to discover beautiful destinations, but to collect moments, emotions, conversations and experiences that stay with us long after we return home.

Because, in the end…

I don’t believe we remember places.

I believe we remember how those places made us feel. 🤍

🌸 Did you know that Mauritius is home to a breathtaking “underwater waterfall”?

It’s actually a natural optical illusion created by sand and ocean currents—but it looks like the ocean is flowing into a waterfall beneath the surface 😍

You can only truly see this incredible view from above, near Le Morne… and it’s one of the most magical sights on the island ✨

One day I’ll stand above this view myself…
…or let’s be honest—hang above it from a helicopter 😅🚁

And honestly, I already can’t wait 💙

And yes… it is part of it.

But over time, I realised something more.

It’s the moment when your body finally slows down.

When everything around you feels calm, soft, and effortless.

It’s not about doing more.

It’s about feeling more.

Feeling present.
Feeling at ease.
Feeling like yourself again.

That is the kind of travel I look for now.

🌸 Mauritius – My Peaceful Haven

There is something almost unreal about this island.
The first time I arrived, I couldn’t fully understand what I was feeling.

It wasn’t just beauty.
Not only the beaches or the luxury hotels.

It was a quiet sense of belonging.

When I think of Mauritius, I feel light.
My body feels both energised and deeply relaxed at the same time — ready to explore, to hike, to sail… but also ready to simply sit, breathe, and watch the shades of blue melt into the horizon.

Mauritius is not one colour.
It is a full palette.

Lush green mountains.
Tropical flowers in every possible shade.
Turquoise lagoons.
Azure skies.
Crystal-clear water reflecting the light in a way that almost feels unreal.

But what makes it truly special for me is the feeling.

It is a peaceful haven.
A place where time softens.
Where mornings are slower.
Where evenings feel gentle.
Where you don’t need to perform — you can simply be.

And maybe that is why I always return.

Not only to see it again,
but to feel that version of myself again.
