Thank you to last weekend's groups! Here they are outside the Clifton Grange Hotel, and Brook's Bank.

The Clifton Grange Hotel looks unassuming, but it links Whalley Range to Thin Lizzy, The S*x Pistols, and George Best to name a few.

As for Brook's Bank (now Flight Club), it was set up by the Brooks family who pop up regularly when looking into Manchester's history. From banks in the city centre, to the lych gate in Chorlton Green, they seem to have got around in their 19th Century building!

Here are the last lot of cold but happy customers on the 'True Crime in Ancoats' tour! We're on Anita Street. When they were built, these houses were a far cry from the previous warren of unsanitary back-to-back houses. In fact - the street was originally Sanitary Street, but the 20th Century residents decided to knock off the 'S' and 'RY' to make 'Anita'.

I have been squirrelling away in the library, working with a journalist from The Mill to get to the bottom of a few of Whalley Range's long-standing questions.

Some of the work went towards their recent piece on the dispute over the suburb's beloved Carlton Club. The rest is in this wonderful article on the history of the neighbourhood. 🌳🏠🏡
