๐ฌ๐ทโจ ATHENS โ BEAUTIFUL, HISTORICโฆ AND A LITTLE BIT PAINFUL! ๐๐ซฃ
Itโs been over a week since we came back from our fabulous trip, and Iโve finally got around to sharing a little bit about Athens.
Now, before I get onto the beautiful bitsโฆ there is a slightly boring part. ๐ฅฑ๐ฅฑ๐ฅฑ
I slipped and fractured my elbow! ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐ฉน
And do you know what this reminded me of? TRAVEL INSURANCE. โ๏ธ๐
I know I bang on about this all the time, but thereโs a very good reason!
I always tell my customers:
๐ If you canโt afford the travel insurance, you canโt afford the holiday.
And please, please make sure you declare ALL your medical conditions and health issues to your insurer โ even things you think are completely irrelevant or โnothing to worry aboutโ.
You might feel perfectly well, but if something happens while youโre away, your insurer needs to know about your medical history. Being honest and upfront can make a huge difference if you need to make a claim.
Thankfully, I had insurance in place โ and after my little Athens adventure, I was VERY glad I did! ๐ฌ
Insurance isnโt just about lost luggage or cancelled flightsโฆ itโs about what happens when the unexpected happens. And believe me, you donโt plan for a fractured elbow on holiday! ๐
So, thatโs my serious travel-agent hat firmly on for a moment. ๐ฉ๐
Nowโฆ back to beautiful Athens! ๐ฌ๐ทโค๏ธ
We stayed in Plaka, which I would definitely recommend if you want to be right in the heart of Athens. Itโs central, full of character and still has that traditional Greek feel, with gorgeous little streets, shops, tavernas and plenty of places to eat. ๐ท๐ฝ๏ธ
๐จ We stayed at the Electra Palace Athens, and it was lovely. The rooftop pool and bar have an incredible view of the Acropolis, especially when itโs lit up in the evening. ๐
๐๏ธ
Definitely one Iโd recommend for a city break!
And of course, you canโt visit Athens without seeing the star of the show โ the Acropolis! ๐๏ธโจ
We decided to book a tour guide when we arrived. It was an extra ยฃ25 per person and was supposed to be a small groupโฆ but somehow it ended up being just the two of us! ๐
Result!
Our guide was fantastic โ really knowledgeable and brought the history to life rather than just pointing at old stones and saying โthereโs another one!โ ๐
The Acropolis is also wheelchair accessible, although there are some practical considerations depending on mobility, so itโs worth checking the arrangements before you go.
We did A LOT of walking around Athens, and itโs such a fabulous city for exploring on foot. History, culture, amazing food, rooftop bars and those gorgeous Greek streetsโฆ whatโs not to love? ๐ฌ๐ทโค๏ธ
One final tip from someone who has now tested the theory VERY personallyโฆ
๐ WEAR GOOD, NON-SLIP SHOES!
Some of the pavements and polished stone surfaces around Athens can be incredibly slippery โ even when theyโre completely dry.
Unfortunately, I can confirm this from personal experience. ๐ซฃ๐
Would I recommend Athens for a city break?
Absolutely! ๐ฌ๐ทโค๏ธ
Just take your travel insuranceโฆ
โฆand maybe leave the high heels at home! ๐๐
