Work begins on mural honouring music legend Mani

Work has started this week on a major new mural celebrating the life and legacy of Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield at Lafadi’s Pub (La Fardy) on Oldham Road in Failsworth. The artwork, created by renowned artist Pic.One.Art, is expected to take approximately five - seven days to complete, weather permitting.

The mural forms part of a wider community-led initiative launched by the not-for-profit art organisation GRIT Studios, following an overwhelming outpouring of love for the legendary bassist of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream. The project was inspired in part by Ian Brown’s moving eulogy at Manchester Cathedral, including his memorable tribute to his friend and band mate: “I want to start a campaign for a Mani statue – 50 feet high – a solid gold statue! Mani forever! God Bless Mani!”

Located in the area where Mani grew up, the wall at Lafadi’s Pub holds personal significance. Mani’s brother, Greg Mounfield helped secure the location and has supported the project from the outset.

Who Framed the Easter Bunny?

New Easter Mystery Trail Launches at RHS Garden Bridgewater

Fri 27 March - Sun 19 April

Take part in a brand‑new adventure this Easter as RHS Garden Bridgewater launches Easter Detectives: Who Framed the Easter Bunny, a fun and interactive mystery trail for children of all ages.
Just as the Easter Bunny prepared to deliver chocolate across the country, disaster struck: every egg basket was found empty, apart from one suspiciously placed carrot. Rumours point the blame at the Easter Bunny, but sightings of eight curious characters near the scene suggest a far more mischievous plot….

Join the investigation by picking up a £3 Easter Detective activity pack, then follow the clues hidden throughout the garden to uncover the truth and save Easter. Each pack includes colouring pencils, puzzles, cyphers and activities suitable for a range of ages. A simpler mini‑trail is available for younger children, and every young detective receives a chocolate prize at the end.

While the kids take on the mystery, adults can enjoy the garden’s early spring atmosphere and seasonal blooms as Bridgewater begins to brighten after winter.
Families can also explore The Wind in the Willows: A Garden Adventure, a trail celebrating the classic tale featuring Mole, Ratty, Badger and the irrepressible Mr Toad.
Garden admission applies, with entry free for RHS Members and children under five. Children aged 5-16 can visit for just £5, and adults can save up to 25% by booking online in advance.

To make visiting even easier, from Sunday 29 March to 29 August, the Bee Network’s number 33 bus, running from Manchester City Centre to Worsley, will be extended directly to RHS Garden Bridgewater. Travelling by public transport, bike or on foot also entitles visitors to a 30% discount on garden entry, making a car‑free trip an even better-value way to enjoy the garden this spring and summer.

RHS Garden Bridgewater is open daily from 10am to 6pm throughout the Easter holidays.

A train platform isn’t usually where you expect to stumble across theatre performances. But that’s exactly what will be happening for a week at Eccles Train Station, as part of the free Get In! To Eccles festival.

Artist Lowri Evans is bringing a new participatory piece called Train Dreaming to the platform, creating small, unexpected moments among the everyday comings and goings of the station. Short scenes will appear during morning rush hour in the week leading up to the festival (w/c 23 March), surprising commuters, before returning during the Get In! To Eccles festival weekend, on the afternoon of Saturday 28 and the morning of Sunday 29 March. Everything is free to watch for anyone travelling through or visiting the festival.

Mother’s Day Bottomless Brunch and ‘Mother’s Day Sins’ at Motley Manchester
Motley Manchester is marking Mother’s Day weekend with two playful dining experiences designed to celebrate mums with great food, drinks and a little mischief.

On Sunday 15 March, the Deansgate restaurant will host a Mother’s Day Bottomless Brunch, priced at £40 per person. Guests can enjoy any large brunch plate alongside 90 minutes of unlimited drinks, with a menu of brunch favourites made using locally sourced ingredients.

Running across the weekend from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 March, Motley will also introduce its tongue-in-cheek ‘Mother’s Day Sins’ promotion. Mums dining with friends or family are invited to confess a ‘sin’ in exchange for a complimentary main dish for the table.

Diners simply need to quote ‘Mother’s Day Sins’ when booking to qualify. The offer is limited to one main course per table, with a minimum of four guests required and exclusions may apply.

Located on Deansgate, Motley is known for its relaxed neighbourhood atmosphere, seasonal dishes and creative cocktails.

Bookings are now open via the Motley Manchester https://www.motleymanchester.co.uk/

Crowdfunder launched to create a large-scale mural honouring Stone Roses and Primal Scream legend Mani

Inspired by Ian Brown's eulogy to Mani at Manchester Cathedral, a major community crowdfunder is being launched to create a large-scale mural honouring the beloved bassist of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream and to raise funds for the Maggie's Centre.

The mural, which will be created in Failsworth, where young Gary 'Mani' Mounfield grew up, has been initiated by the team at GRIT Studios following an overwhelming outpouring of love from fans across Greater Manchester and beyond.
