Altitude in Colorado hits harder than most people expect — especially after a long-haul flight.

Denver sits at around 1,600 metres. Estes Park is higher. Trail Ridge Road climbs above 3,600 metres. The first 24 hours should feel almost too easy. Drink more water than you think you need, go light on alcohol, and don't start with a lung-busting hike above the tree line.
