Pioneering Electrical Engineering company Ferrarti, moved from London to Failsworth in the 1890’s.
The company worked with Manchester University to build the Ferranti Mark 1, The World’s First commercially available computer.

One of the great astronomical discoveries, was the First Transit of Venus in the 1639, 2 north west astronomers William Crabtree from Lower Broughton, Salford and Jeremiah Horrocks who was a curate at St. Michael’s Church, Much Hoole, near Preston.
The astronomers never met but their discoveries led to the most accurate measurement of the Universe at the time.
