There’s a reason experienced travellers often choose to travel outside the peak summer months.

Shoulder season can offer a wonderful balance of pleasant weather, fewer crowds and a more relaxed atmosphere, allowing you to enjoy destinations at a gentler pace.

You’ll often find shorter queues at popular attractions, greater availability at sought-after hotels and a more authentic feel as destinations return to their normal rhythm.

It’s also an excellent time for sightseeing, outdoor dining, exploring local culture and making the most of your holiday without the intensity of peak-season temperatures.

Why June is one of the best months to travel

If you’re looking to get away before the summer crowds arrive, June is a fantastic time to travel.

Greece is warm, sunny and full of life, with comfortable temperatures for exploring islands such as Crete, Corfu and Rhodes before the peak summer heat arrives.

The Amalfi Coast is looking its best, with colourful coastal towns, beautiful sea views and outdoor dining in perfect early summer weather. It’s an ideal time to enjoy Positano, Amalfi and Ravello before July and August become much busier.

For something a little different, Copenhagen is wonderful in June. Long daylight hours, outdoor cafés, waterfront dining and a relaxed atmosphere make it a fantastic city break destination.

Whether you’re looking for sunshine, culture, great food or a mix of all three, June offers some excellent opportunities before the main school holiday season begins.
