"Ukusefya pa Ngwena – The Crocodile’s Legacy" 🐊✨

Long ago, the Bemba people journeyed from Kola in present-day Angola, crossing rivers and forests in search of a new home. Their journey ended on the banks of the Milando River, where they found a dead crocodile — a powerful sign for the Ng’wena (Crocodile) clan.

Here, they settled, building a kingdom under the leadership of the Chitimukulu. To this day, the crocodile remains the proud emblem of the Bemba people.

Every August in Mungwi, this history comes alive. Drums echo, dancers whirl, and the Mwine Lubemba is carried high on the magnificent crocodile throne — a symbol of strength, unity, and heritage.

Ukusefya pa Ngwena is not just a celebration. It’s a journey through time, a reminder of where we come from, and a call to preserve the roots that make us who we are.
