The Quiet Man was filmed in Cong, Co. Mayo. It became one of the first colour films shot outside North America, and suddenly the west of Ireland was on cinema screens in full colour.

The scale of the production caught people off guard. The Irish landscape carried the film and it didn’t just impress audiences. Members of the crew ended up returning long after production finished.
