DIY Matt on the job!
We love keeping the cottage and the garden in excellent condition. We know our guests really appreciate it and it’s been fantastic to have each and every one of our guests really look after things and be so respectful. Thankyou all so much.
Sometimes it’s good to see and hear what goes on behind the scenes.
There’s always something to paint, fix, mend, improve and resolve.

A couple of weeks ago we had a really stressful Sunday where guests had checked out in the morning and the next guests were checking in at 4pm. The bathroom lights weren’t working and the emergency electrician arrived at 2:50pm. A nail biting close shave, but thankful the lights were sorted by 5pm ish 🙏💰(imagine the Sunday call-out fee😬)

But, it’s all worth it when our guests tell us how much they’ve loved their stay and leave a five star review.
We’ve been open for almost one year and yes it’s hard work, what business isn’t? But it’s also been great fun and definitely a success so far!

Comfortable, clean, great location - would definitely stay here again.
Visited as a group of four friends wanting a base for hikes in the peaks and exploring local towns, and the cottage had everything we needed. Everything was clean and tidy, warm, quiet and cosy, with a garden terrace for warmer evenings and blankets & games in the living room for a night in. We even noticed a towel, water bowl and bags for anyone traveling with a dog.
The location is well-placed for local restaurants, supermarkets and the riverside park at walking distance (though for those a little less able note that it’s up a gentle hill from town, so a car might be handy).
The welcome hamper was a lovely touch and the hosts are helpful and proactive. Would highly recommend staying here for a trip to Matlock and the surrounding countryside.

Lovely cottage, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Easy to find property and all mod cons which were simple to use. You could easily walk into Matlock town which has plenty of places to eat and it is easy to find your way about to other towns such as Bakewell and Buxton. Heights of Abraham is not for the faint hearted but well worth the trip up for the views. Thoroughly recommend this cottage and hope to be back soon.
