It’s been another lovely mild day but with rain forecast tomorrow the farm team are burning the midnight oil trying to get the sowing done. Farm work at this time of year is never done & like our guests the boys like to make the best of the good weather…

Whilst the combine might be finished the farm team are still busy on farm with plenty of arable work as the sowing gets underway...
And yes, the weather isn’t as sunny these last few days but the views across the region remain bright & it’s still pretty warm & dry!

Ops I almost forgot to share this video which I recorded at lunchtime today. It was so peaceful up at Gattonside Mains I could have stayed all day & would definitely enjoy a holiday there!!

Whilst our guests enjoy the return of the nice dry weather our farm team have been busy finishing the Harvest work onsite (they finished the last field this afternoon) but the team are not finished as they are now off to do work on a neighbouring farm and get more harvesting done over the next few days - yip at this time of year the combine/ harvest work is never done - even at the weekend!! Thanks to our harvest student Asia for this footage of the final Field getting finished….

As a mixed arable & livestock farm, we use the straw (from the arable crops) as cattle bedding during the winter months (it gives the cattle a nice cosy bed when they are all housed inside the cattle sheds).
So, to keep the straw dry & as good quality as possible once it’s baled it needs to be transported from the field into the shed asap and here’s Asia showing us how it’s done.

Up at Gattobside Mains the team like to keep the farm & all the machinery & equipment as clean as possible so our guests get to see nice shiny machinery (well when & where possible they do!😜)..

We are loving these sunny 🌞 summer nights… not only can guests enjoy late evenings sitting out in the gardens but they are perfect for getting the harvest cut & into the sheds up at Gattonside Mains & here’s our student Asia unloading another load of barley… & we have to say, for someone who has come from a dairy farm she is picking up the arable work very well…. 😉😆
