After arriving back in Milan on Monday, we headed back into Switzerland and to Zermatt, home to one of the world’s most famous peaks, as I’m sure you know! 🇨🇭⛰️

On Wednesday, we took the Gornergrat Railway up to the panoramic viewpoint, giving us some stunning views of the Matterhorn from various different angles! We then hiked down over 1,500 metres back into Zermatt, taking in all the views as we went along.

We were lucky enough to spot one of the resident marmots, as well as a flock of the famous Valais Blacknose sheep, known for their incredibly fluffy coats! 🐑

We’ve now left Switzerland for the last time this summer and made our way back up to Calais, where we’re just about to board our ferry back to Dover.

Last night, we were treated an absolutely incredible sunset over the Channel, which felt like the perfect way to draw our time on the continent to a close.

And just like that, our 12 weeks away are coming to an end… 😢

It’s been the most amazing experience, and honestly, we wish we could’ve gone on forever! (Hopefully one day we will…) From mountains and lakes to cities, beaches, hikes and everything in between, we’ve made some incredible memories that we’ll never forget.

Now for the journey home… and back to reality! ✈️💻

On Friday we boarded a plane for the first time this summer, sounds weird saying that! 😅 After 11 weeks of driving, this weekend we did things a little differently!

We said goodbye to the car at Milan Malpensa Airport as we headed to a very wet Gothenburg to see Swedish House Mafia! 🇸🇪

And even better, they played at a very iconic venue, the Ullevi, home to a very famous night back in May 1983… 🔴⚪️⭐️

There were no direct flights back to Milan, so we also took a little detour via Gdańsk, where we spent Sunday night and all of Monday before flying back! 🇵🇱

We’re now back in Switzerland, but it was nice to spend the weekend doing something a bit different to what we’ve been used to! ✈️🇸🇪🇵🇱

On Sunday we found ourselves hanging 600 metres above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, as we took on Switzerland’s most famous Via Ferrata in Mürren! 🇨🇭

First, we had to take the world’s steepest cable car, with a 159% gradient, from Stechelberg up to Mürren, where we’d start the 300-metre descent towards Gimmelwald.

As the Via Ferrata is so popular, we actually had to queue for the first half an hour or so. Thankfully, the crowds finally started to spread out when we reached the famous exposed section high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, with only our safety kit and the iron rungs beneath our feet stopping us from falling 600 metres! 😳

It is 100% one of the most adrenaline-pumping things I have ever done, second only to jumping out of a plane!

The rest of the Via Ferrata included sections of downward ladder climbs, again pretty exposed, two cable tightropes and, towards the end, a very shaky Nepal Bridge, where at times the only thing you had to hold onto was the cable you were clipped into! 😬

Before taking the cable car back down from Gimmelwald, we enjoyed a pint whilst taking in the stunning views! 🍻

Definitely the craziest experience of our summer so far! 🇨🇭⛰️

After a few rainy days in Interlaken, yesterday the sun was finally back out, so we took on another big hike!

We had to take three buses from our campsite to the starting point, before beginning the climb up to Augstmatthorn, located on the Hardergrat ridge high above Lake Brienz.

On this trip, and across previous years, I’d say I’ve seen some pretty incredible views, but I think this one tops the lot…

After reaching the summit of Augstmatthorn, we continued along the Hardergrat ridge towards Harder Kulm, the famous viewpoint at the “top of Interlaken”. From up here, you can look across the Bernese Alps, home to some of Europe’s highest peaks, with incredible views following us all the way along the ridge.

Over 12 hours after leaving camp, we finally made it back just in time for sunset. And, after a very long day on the legs, there was only one way to cool off… a dip in Lake Thun!

Today we’ve moved on from Interlaken and into the famous Lauterbrunnen Valley, where we’ll spend the next few days surrounded by the many waterfalls and incredible scenery this area is famous for!

On Friday we were up bright and early to make the hike up to Oeschinensee!

This was my third time visiting this amazingly beautiful lake, and it’s definitely still one of my favourite places I’ve ever been!

Each visit has been completely different. In April 2023, the lake was still surrounded by snow and only partially full, as the glaciers hadn’t fully melted. I even watched a few avalanches as the snow and glaciers slowly began to melt!

In June 2024, the lake was completely full, with snow-capped mountains surrounding it. This time, there wasn’t a trace of snow, with the glaciers looking dry and having slowly melted away following the heatwaves over the last few months.

We completed the full loop hike before taking a dip in the lake to cool off afterwards! The views were incredible, and it’s no surprise this place is becoming more and more popular.

We’re now based in Interlaken for the next few nights, which is a fantastic location for exploring the Bernese Oberland! 🇨🇭

Working with a view tonight 🇨🇭😍

Caught a glimpse of the solar eclipse before it went behind the mountains, while confirming one of many bookings I’ve made over the past few days! So thanks to everyone for their support, I really do love booking all of your amazing holidays!

In amongst work, yesterday we hiked along the Stoos ridge line, another hike I’ve previously done here and loved! The one difference I noticed this year was how much more yellow the grass was, it might not look that bad but if you see the difference to my pictures from two years ago you’d see what I mean! The summer heat clearly having its effect here in a usually very green country.

Tomorrow we move on again, to another of Switzerlands most famous hikes, another I’ve done previously, twice, it’s that good yes! So stay tuned!

After a week by the pool to give the feet a rest and get some work done, we were back on the road on Wednesday! A 5 hour journey passing through 4 countries, Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and finally Austria, where we found ourselves for the night! Although we were actually on the move up to Switzerland, we ended up staying just across the border in Austria before moving back across the border the next day to explore the Appenzell Region in the north east of the country, somewhere I hadn’t yet explored in this beautiful country!

Yesterday we hiked to Schäfler Ridge, a very cool mountain formation in the Appenzell Region, with some absolutely incredible views along the way! ⛰️🇨🇭

After a pretty tough hike back down, there was only one thing for it… straight into the water for a swim to cool off and relax! 🥵

Today we’ve continued our journey through Switzerland and found ourselves at the stunning Lake Walensee, where we’ve spent the day swimming, relaxing and enjoying the scenery. 🏔️

We’ll be spending the rest of August here in Switzerland, probably still my favourite country I’ve visited, with plenty more hikes, sights and lakes to see! Stay tuned!🇨🇭🏔️

We’ve arrived at our next destination, where we’ll be spending the next five nights relaxing after a very busy few weeks exploring the Dolomites! 🇮🇹🚐

We’re still in Italy, but now based in Sirmione at the southern end of Lake Garda. It’s absolutely cooking here… a very chilly 37°C this afternoon! 🥵 Quite the change from the high teens and low twenties we’d mostly been enjoying in the mountains. Thankfully, our campsite is right on the lake and has three swimming pools, all of which have already had plenty of use!

It’s also the first time in 15 years I haven’t had an Aberdeen season ticket, but I still managed to watch the Dons get the season off to the perfect start with a routine home win over serial bottlers Hearts! 😆

Before leaving the Dolomites, we spent our final two days visiting Alpe di Siusi, Europe’s largest alpine meadow, before heading to Santa Maddalena to hike the stunning Adolf Munkel Trail to Geisleralm. We then finished by taking in one of the Dolomites’ most iconic viewpoints overlooking the Geisler/Odle peaks. ⛰️

Finally, thanks to everyone who has been in touch recently, I really appreciate all the support! If I haven’t replied yet, I’m working my way through everything and will get back to you as soon as I can.
