Mousehole is a Cornish fishing village with great depth and history. Here are a few tidbits to note:

The Clamshell is beautifully positioned in the ancient heart of Mousehole, very near to “Keigwin”, reputed to be the only building not burned down by Spanish invaders in the 16th century! 

The Clamshell Cottage housed Dolly Pentreath, who was one of the last speakers of the Cornish language as her native tongue. She died in 1777, and a plaque on The Clamshell Cottage honors her.

The Ship Inn—just a few steps from the cottage— was a favorite of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. He’s the writer who coined Mousehole as ‘quite the loveliest village in England,’ and there is a corner of the bar that is dedicated to him.

📍Mousehole, Cornwall is the perfect place to bring your family for a sea holiday. The Clamshell is a few steps from the harbor—a perfect beach for kids and adults alike! Ice cream shops and delis line the harbor walk. There’s a pub and coffee shop on the main road as well.
