National Rural Crime Action Week highlights the often-overlooked impact of rural crime.

From machinery and fuel theft to fly-tipping, livestock worrying and behaviour that increases wildfire risk, these incidents can have serious financial, emotional and environmental consequences for Scotland's farmers, land managers and rural communities.

Behind every incident is a person, family or business facing the costs, disruption and stress that rural crime can cause.

Scottish Land & Estates is committed to working with partners through the Scottish Partnership Against Rural Crime (SPARC) to help tackle rural crime and protect rural businesses and communities.

If you see suspicious activity, report it to Police Scotland on 101, or 999 in an emergency.

🚁 A major step forward for wildfire resilience in Scotland.

The Scottish Government has announced dedicated helicopter support for wildfire response, with aircraft able to be placed on standby and deployed immediately during periods of high, very high and extreme wildfire risk.

This follows our call for guaranteed helicopter availability and reflects the concerns and evidence provided by our members about the growing threat wildfires pose to communities, wildlife, businesses and landscapes.

While this is an important milestone, it is only part of the solution. We'll continue to champion a long-term approach to wildfire prevention, preparedness and response.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the case for change.

When the Glenmore-Strathnethy wildfire broke out, land-based and rural businesses responded with people, machinery, local knowledge and specialist expertise.

Our new report shows the scale of that contribution – more than 250 pieces of equipment, nearly Β£6.4 million in recorded equipment value, and 266 person-days volunteered, authorised to assist or placed on standby.

But it also makes clear that Scotland needs a better system: one that identifies, mobilises and integrates rural capability before the next major wildfire. Read the report and join us in calling for a planned, exercised wildfire resilience model.
