New Quay Birds Of Prey

New Quay Birds Of Prey Sorry folks but due to Covid-19 we are not currently able to offer any of our experiences. We cater for individuals as well as groups.

New Quay Birds of Prey is a small family run business offering people the opportunity to have a one to one private and personal encounter with one or more of our birds of prey. We bring the birds to you, or your venue, and we try to make the experience as special as we can. We display one bird at a time, giving the audience ample time to see them at close quarter, ask questions and take photograph

s. We deliver what we hope is a informative and fact filled talk on each bird, not only covering information about their specific species but also some history and anecdotes about our own birds and our experiences with them. You may even get to hold one yourself ! Our focus is always on education, raising awareness and making these amazing birds accessible. We do not indulge in sensationalism or showmanship during any of our activities. We sometimes fly our birds for the public if the location, time and occasion lends itself to us doing this safely. The welfare of our birds is always paramount and for this reason we do not encourage excessive handling or stroking by the general public, their feathers are very delicate and so are their nerves and tempers ! Most of our birds do not mind gentle contact however, but some do, so we have to regulate this activity carefully. Our birds, in the main, are very steady and patient but they do not react well to lots of sporadic noise, camera flashes at close quarters or rapid/direct approaches so we respectfully ask participants at any event to consider the birds whilst they are out on display.

We have taken the decision to close the business permanently.
We would like to thank all of the people that have followed us and supported us over the past few years and reassure you all that the birds are thoroughly enjoying their retirement .... in fact their obvious contentment is one of the major reasons that we will not be returning to public engagement after the restrictions are lifted. Lockdown has given us all time to reflect and re-evaluate. We love our birds and seeing them happy and having time to just enjoy their company here at home is priceless.
We will miss meeting you all but wish you all well.

We saw a vulture with his own ball pit and wondered what Sam our Harris would think to the idea .......... this is the very first time he saw it!

We saw a video of a Vulture with a ball pit on the bird of prey enrichment's page and thought Sam might like one.

Owls may not be waterproof but that hasn't stopped Al the Tawny from giving body boarding a go!
But seriously, during the long spell of warm weather we had been enjoying we decided we needed to dig out our pool. Unfortunately the most level area to put it on was about 20ft from Al's aviary. He observed us with keen curiosity from his aviary, but when he came out for his exercise it was all a bit too much and he was not willing to fly anywhere near it. However after a few days of just allowing him to skirt around it or sit on the gate and look at it, he finally started to gain confidence and fly closer and closer and even over it - and trust me Al will not fly anywhere if he isn't 100% happy about it, if you push him too much he just flies straight back to his aviary, full stop. Today Gary thougt he would just see if Al was really over is fear of the pool and it certainly seems as though he is. He has exercised caution, contemplated and then embraced the new "thing".......we love Al !

A quick bit of circuit trainning for Fudge this morning.
Whenever possible we try to refrain from restraint. Here, Gary just opens Fudges aviary door and Fudge flies in over the hedge, straight into the weighing room and on to the scales before a short exercise session. Then he happily returns to his aviary without any restraint. Fudge will sometimes throw in a couple of laps of the house, but thats fine. Depending on the weather Fudge comes out 2 or 3 times a day for varying periods, they go for a walk/fly up the track too. On bad weather days they are restricted to the barn to get some exercise, but Fudge isn't so keen on that.
