🍹It's no coincidence that this group of pretty apartments have the name Bella Vista - the view from each one is breath-taking. Built in a peaceful location on a hillside, each rooftop forming the spacious balcony of the next, the apartments give guests a panoramic sweep which takes in the town of Sissi and the coastline. Located 45 kms from Heraklion, and just 300 metres from the lovely beach. Wander down to Sissi for a taste of vibrant nightlife, or there are a number of other towns and villages worth a visit including Stalis and Malia. The apartments are roomy, tastefully furnished and fully-equipped with large modern kitchen fittings and facilities. All are surrounded with beautiful gardens, a blaze of colour in summertime. A lovely big pool with plenty of sunbathing terrace around it takes centre stage, with the adjacent separate children's pool. With its situation in the middle of Crete, this is the perfect base for exploring the rest of the island and visiting the cultural attractions at Knossos, Festos and the ancient city of Gortyna, ancient capital of the Roman Empire. The lovely beach is just 300 metres away with its wonderful shallow sea and vast stretch of sand and there are a number of towns beyond the village of Sissi worth a visit: Stalis and Malia are nearby and Heraklion is only 45 kms away. All are easily reached by the bus which runs regularly from a stop close to the apartments. After a busy day out, enjoy a cocktail or two at the bar whilst watching the amazing sunset and recharging your batteries before wandering down to Sissi for a taste of the vibrant nightlife in the tavernas and bars around the bay. Please note: This accommodation is not suitable for guests with walking difficulties. The hotel is located on the outskirts of the resort (as it is a bit of a walk into the resort).

Brits will need €7 visa waiver to travel to EU next summer

EU officials have confirmed that Britons travelling to Europe next summer will need to apply for a visa waiver.

The visa waiver will cost €7 for people aged 18-70. There will be no charge for children and those over 70.

It will last for three years, or until the holder’s passport expires, whichever comes first.

Passengers will apply online or via a mobile app and most applications will be approved within minutes, say officials, although they have warned it might take up to 72 hours or even up to a month for more complex cases.

As part of the application process, ‘full disclosure’ is required regarding an applicant’s background, including travel history and any criminal record.

EU Home Affairs Minister Ylva Johansson said the visa waiver, officially called the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will follow the implementation of the automated EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which she has confirmed will launch on 10 November 2024 following years of delays.

She said introduction of the ETIAS will follow six months later, meaning it should be in place by mid-May 2025.

When the EES comes into force in the autumn, travellers with non-EU passports, including those travelling on British passports, will need to register their fingerprint and have their photo taken the first time they cross the border.

The new system is expected to lead to delays on arrival at EU airports and ports as it will take border guards up to two minutes longer to process each passenger.
