The August Bank Holiday weekend is finally here, which means it’s nearly time for Krazy Races! 🎉

But as always, there's plenty more happening throughout the town centre. On Saturday morning join the Mayor of Newbury in the Town Hall for a relaxed morning of coffee, conversation, and community spirit, all in support of Berkshire Youth.

Sunday of course is the big day! 23 teams will battle it out to be crowned champions of the very first Newbury BID Krazy Races Soapbox Derby. The free event runs all day and you can come and go as you please - great if you need to get a bit of shopping in, or fancy sneaking off for a coffee or some lunch. While you’re in town, why pop over the road to check out the brilliant Art on the Park exhibition by Victoria Park Nursery School - just a short stroll from all the Krazy Races excitement!

And on Monday, head to the Market Place from 11:30am for an afternoon of laid-back summer tunes from local DJs. Bring some food, or grab a drink and snack from one of the pubs or restaurants nearby, then settle into a deckchair to wind down at the end of a busy weekend 😎

Not long to go now! Here’s some of the key info for Newbury’s first-ever Krazy Races Soapbox Derby, happening this Sunday.

The action-packed course runs from the Strawberry Hill / Old Bath Road roundabout, sweeping down Oxford Street before flying across the finish line near the Clock Tower on The Broadway.

The day kicks off at 10:45am with an official launch procession, before teams take on three timed runs - and no doubt put on quite the show!

You'll be able to catch all the action trackside, or on a giant screen by the Clock Tower. The top 10 teams will then battle it out in a final shootout to be crowned the very first Newbury BID Krazy Races Champion! 🏆

There’ll also be prizes for categories like Best Dressed, Most Entertaining Team, and Best Soapbox Design - plenty of ways for teams to be recognised for all the creativity and effort they’ve put in 💜

The event is free to attend and you can come and go as you please, and all the usual town centre car parks will be open.

The public vote is now open for Newbury’s very first Newbury BID Krazy Races Soapbox Derby, taking place this Sunday 🥳

Got friends or family taking part? Colleagues who will be racing for glory? Maybe a local business or charity you love, or perhaps a design that's caught your eye? Now’s your chance to show your support!

Art on the Park returns to Victoria Park this Bank Holiday Sunday, with over 20 artists exhibiting their work outside Victoria Park Nursery School.

Happy Friday, everyone! Hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine and keeping cool - lots of water is the name of the game today! 🥤

There’s plenty happening in Newbury this warm August weekend, and some highlights include SummerFest at the Waterside Centre, India Day at Esquires Coffee, Milk & Bean’s 2nd birthday celebrations, and activities to commemorate VJ Day at the Royal British Legion.

Mamma Mia… there’s also lots of free live music in the town centre! Lock Stock & Barrel’s new Rooftop 104 hosts music in the afternoon, you can enjoy a cool drink outside the Corn Exchange with Music on the Terrace, and Roadhouse and friends will be playing in Victoria Park Bandstand to raise funds and awareness for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Thank you for the music 🙏

And if you’re taking a chance on the horses before catching Björn Again or Clean Bandit at Newbury Racecourse, have fun!

This summer marks 80 years since VJ Day - the day the Second World War ended in the Far East.

On Friday 15th at 11am, join the community at Newbury War Memorial for a commemorative service marking the anniversary, and honouring those who served in the Far East.

Newbury Town Council and partners have also organised a free reception and exhibition in Newbury Town Hall after the service, sharing stories and memories from those who served - spaces are free but please book in advance by emailing [email protected].

On Saturday 16th, Newbury Royal British Legion Club will also be commemorating the anniversary with a day of activities at their club on Pelican Lane, including military vehicle displays, historical exhibitions, and entertainment for all ages.

Sending our congratulations early to Milk and Bean, who celebrate their 2nd business birthday this Friday! 🥳

Join the celebrations this weekend as the team serves up plenty of treats on Saturday and Sunday - Oatly will be coming along for the party, and bringing their dreamy vanilla soft serve with them🍦
