Sitka caught us completely off guard.

The next video in our Virgin Voyages Alaska series is live — and this one's a proper history lesson.

The best bit? None of it’s behind glass. These are clan stories and family crests, and there are carvers still working in the visitor centre studios every summer. Living heritage, not a museum.

Everyone books Alaska for the glaciers and the whales 🐋🧊 and fair enough, they’re unreal. But Sitka is the one we came home talking about. Do not skip it.

Virgin Voyages has a reputation as a big, loud party ship. And honestly?

The parties are some of the best at sea. But that reputation does raise a fair question, and it’s one I’ve quietly wondered about myself: is it too much for sailors who are neurodivergent, or who use a wheelchair?

We’ve had plenty of clients with accessibility needs sail happily across all sorts of brands, so I’ve never had real concerns. But Scarlet Night is the busiest, most gloriously chaotic moment of any Virgin voyage, and I’d wondered how easy it would be to move through that.
Last week on Valiant Lady I got my answer.

I already knew the Happenings Cast were brilliant at setting the tone and spotting the solo traveller hovering at the edge. What took me aback was watching them, mid-Scarlet Night, stop what they were doing to check in one-to-one with neurodivergent sailors and wheelchair users they’d built a rapport with across the week.

Dancing with them. High-fiving them. Making sure they were okay.

The joy on those faces. Welcomed, part of it, not watching from the side. That’s the bit I keep thinking about.
