From 12th October 2025, the European Union is introducing a new Entry/Exit System (EES) for travellers visiting the Schengen Area โ and this will directly affect UK holidaymakers.

A new EU border system that replaces passport stamping.
It will automatically track the 90 days in 180 rule for visitors.
Travellers will need to register fingerprints and a photo on their first trip into the Schengen Area after the system launches.

On your first arrival after 12th October 2025: youโll provide fingerprints + photo at a border kiosk.

Allow extra time at airports/ports while the system is new โ queues are expected.
Ireland and Cyprus are NOT in Schengen โ so no changes there.
Remember the 90 days in 180 rule โ overstays can now be tracked and may result in penalties.
